A MAC haul to start off the New Year…

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the festivities over the past few weeks. Like most of I’m sure, my house is still chocker with boxes of sweets and yummies. Mine will be swiftly dealt out amongst my family before I savage through them. Santa treated me to a few new make-up bits so I’ll post about them over the next few days. I am also thinking about my beauty resolutions so when I have committed I’ll share. Anyone get any new make-up?

Back to business…what better way to start a new year of blogging than with a MAC haul :) I haven’t been in MAC for quite a while so I was expecting to feel overcome with greed. Instead I left underwhelmed but with a bag containing a few items that had been on my list for a while.

Clockwise from top left – Trax, Rice Paper, Well Dressed Blush, Fillament, Shale.

Well Dressed Blush – it’s predecessor smashed into a million pieces. I popped all the remnants I could salvage back into the pan and attempted to use it as normal. I ended up with blobs of pink all over my face. This is a smooth true soft pink. It is just beautiful. If you’re after a natural soft pink flush, buy it. It’s perfect.

Rubenesque Paint Pot – Golden Peach with gold pearl. This one has been on my list for ages. I use Painterly Paint Pot almost every day but wanted one that is pretty enough to be worn alone. This is it! Pure class.

Shale Eyeshadow -Satin finish. Mauve-plum with subtle shimmer. This is a beautiful looking shade of plum with greyish tones. It’s not as pigmented as many of MAC’s other satin finish shadows. I applied it in the crease over a pink. The result was amazing unfortunately it made my eyes look sore. This is one for brown, green or hazel eyes – would make a great alternative smokey eye shade.

Trax Eyeshadow – Velvet Finish. Burgundy plum with gold shimmer. So far, quite a bit of fallout, even over primer and it’s not that pigmented. There is no intensity to this shade despite it’s beauty in the pan. However it does reflect nicely in the light. Once again, made for green eyes. I regret this one.

Fillament Eyeshadow – Lustre finish. This is described as a platinum silver, I don’t think that is an accurate description. It’s gorgeous in the pan! It’s even gorgeous when you swatch it under the store lights. Unfortunately, the fall-out is ridiculous. There is also very little colour pay-off and far too much shimmer chunks! If you’re looking for silver check out Silver Ring or Electra.

Rice Paper Eyeshadow – Frost finish. This is a peachy gold with shimmer. I Love it! This shadow is almost buttery and very blendable. Much better than a stark white for highlighting the inner eye.

Here are a few swatches I took in natural light…

Left to Right: Fillament, Rice Paper, Shale, Trax, Well Dressed.

Rubenesque Paint Pot

Thoughts on any of these? Combinations?

Dying to know if anyone got a any new make-up!! Off to work on my beauty resolutions. Catch you ladies later.

We can’t return beauty products here in Australia either. It really stings when you’ve made an expensive purchase you regret. I picked up MAC Angel yesterday. I am really enjoying it so far.

Hey Amy! Can you tell I’m catching up on blog reading :) Its my last day of break, back to work at university tomorrow :(
Love this post! I have some limited access to MAC & by limited I mean I limit myself! :) I’m about your coloring but with auburn hair & grey/green eyes so I can take your suggestions & alter where necessary. My fav MAC shadow has to be all that glitters & i like to take a plum in the crease with it to warm it up a little. I recently purchased a plum kajal (sp?) pencil and I can’t wait to smudge it out. I’ve been all about smudgy, sexy slept in looks. If only I could look that good after sleeping in my make up (don’t worry, i rarely ever do it!). Hope your new year was fun! Can’t wait for your next video!
Would you consider doing a video on your healthy/food lifestyle? If you exercise, what sorts of foods you eat etc… Thanks!

Poor you back in work! What are you studying?
I have never thought of adding plum with all that glitters. A few people have mentioned that combo. I’m going to dabble :) I too am a fan of the slept-in look. I remember the days that I actually used to have slept-in eyeliner, wake you looking great and fall out the door to college – those days are well and truly gone :(
Great idea for a video – I actually planned to do a video on keeping slim over christmas and got distracted with christmas shananigans :) I will indeed record a lifestyle/excercise video. It would be fun. I’ll actually record tomorrow!
      Enjoy work and college :)

I can’t wait, I get loads of inspiration from others & what they eat or what they do for exercise…especially since i can get bored easily with food or routines. My family is Irish but I grew up in a mostly italian area & the food is, of course, amazing & i don’t know a carb i don’t love so…prayers needed for sure :)

I actually work in the international office-i am the director of admissions so i bring in international students to study for both english and regular bachelors or masters programs…issue immigration papers etc…we have been on winter/Christmas break for a few weeks and we go back tomorrow and students return next monday. I wish i had the rest of this week off! :)

I love trax eyeshadow it works really well for me and is just the right amount of pigmentation for me :) It looks lovely against blue eyes

Hmm wonder if it’s my skintone then? or perhaps my eyes look a bit red, eye-shadow aside :)

I like Trax too. I like to wear it in the crease with All That Glitters on the lid. Great neutral combination for work :). I do like Barefoot Contessa from Stila better, though. Pretty much the same color, but it has a better texture.

Ooo Will try that! Haven’t chatted in ages, off to email you :) Hope you’re well

Ok, so I feel really stupid. I was thinking of MAC Twinks! Gah. I haven’t worn Trax in ages… I used to like using it for a smoky-ish eye. Laura Mercier African Violet is very similar (I think that’s the one), but I think the texture is a bit nicer than Trax. Anyway… now that I think of it, Trax might work with All That Glitters too… I might have to try it :).

So glad to have you back after Christmas!! Back to checking your blog daily now :-)
Thanks for sharing the haul, fun. I adore well dressed too!!!

      Yaaaaay!

I regretted Trax when I first purchased it too. I returned it almost immediately.

You’re so luck you can return in the US, here once we open something they laugh if we don’t like it :)

That is so awful that you can not return something that doesn’t work for you. IS the US you can but the sales girls always give you that sideways glance. Some are down right rude about it too.

Actually I noticed that when I returned a bottle of clinique moisturising lotion – I wanted the gel instead. The box was still sealed but I still got a dirty look ha ha at least they take it back though. Wish they would here – we have very poor customer service
