Beauty from the Inside Out: Chlorella Experimet

I heard about the natural supplement Chlorella on Twitter a few months ago. Another YouTube beauty guru (can’t remember who) spoke about it clearing up her skin and leaving her feeling full of energy. I was intrigued and decided to do a little research.

Chlorella is green algae found naturally in ponds. It’s sold in tablet and powder form. It is considered a Super Food by holistic nutritionists; it’s high in protein and essential nutrients and full of antioxidants.

According to the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (March 2001) chlorella is an excellent source for detoxification.

According to the information on the leaflet Chlorella…

  • Filters out toxins from the body
  • Boosts immune system
  • Promotes growth and repair of your tissues
  • Aids you in promoting optimal blood pressure
  • Helps digestion
  • Helps purify blood
  • Freshens breath
  • Aids in the natural removal of potential toxins from the body
  • Delivers antioxidant in the form of beta-carotene

Sounds good doesn’t it. I like the idea that it could help me on the inside and the outside so I bought a box for €20 in my local health shop and decided to give it  a whirl. I opted for the tablet form instead of the powder. As per the instructions I will start buy taking two a day and build up a little more as my body gets used to it.

I will let you know whether I notice and change in energy levels, skin condition etc. I’m crossing my fingers that it does all of the above and that I feel and look amazing…but I’m realistic!

Have you tried it?

Hello everyone – Chlorella can have this effect on some people, that you get sick when you take it, can be a cleaning process. Example I take 10-15 tabs a day without any side effects. Chlorella is very interesting for sure. Also have a look at Colostrum, Barley grass, just some tips.

I had been taking two a day aswell, but I’ve stopped taking it now. I dont want to risk being sick again. Maybe it just doesn’t agree with some people?

    • Amy

@Emily That’s scary! I’m a little afraid now haha I will have a look and see if there are any allergins in the ingredients list. Thanks for letting us know – I will add an update to the post

    • Amy

@Emily Oh my god Emily I certainly wouldn’t take it if it had that effect- nothings worth that! I only take two a day. How many do you take?

I have been taking Liquid Chlorophyll for the past couple of months which I have found has helped clear up the congestion in my skin.

Just stumbled upon your blog via You Tube – love it! Will definitely be coming back :)

    Hi Amy,
if you are looking for a good health food take wheatgrass. It has no side effects. I’ve seen reports of uric acid and other side effects in some people taking chlorella and spirulina. Although wonderful some people have difficulty digesting them. Good luck with the detox but be careful. x

I’ve never heard of Chlorella, but it sounds good!
Ever hear about Maca Root? I was curious about taking that too, but it’s hard to find in health stores.

  • Dorothy

Thanks for pointing this out, Amy! I’ve been interested in giving spirulina try for some time, which has similar benefits apparently. Now I think I’ll consider trying Chlorella as well. I’ve done some more research an I’ve found 2 links that explain all about the benefits of chlorella and spirulina. One of them is an entire book on them that is available free online! It seems like I can’t leave links in a comment here though…. I tried twice and my comment didn’t show up…
