Want Big Eyes? Consider an Eyelash Curler

'Tweet this' button

I’m obsessed with eyelashes. They can really make a face. I like my own, they are curly and quite full. But what I gain in curl I lack in length. Hence the lengthening mascara addiction. For those if you that don’t have overly curly lashes you should give an eyelash curlers a try.

People are always shocked at the difference curled lashes makes to their eyes and face. Nearly all women would benefit from using one, especially ladies with straight lashes. It really opens up, lengthens and widens the eye.

The most important thing is to remember to curl your lashes before you apply mascara. If  you try it reverse it could damage the lashes. Also remember to clean your eyelash curler regularly to avoid eye infections.

Another tip I picked up is to blast your eyelash curlers with your hairdryer for a few seconds before using it. The heat will help curl the lashes and ensure hold.  Apply the tool the base of the lashes and press together for about 10 seconds. Be careful no the pinch the skin on your eyelids. If you have very straight lashes move the tool half way up the lashes and repeat.

The Bobbi Brown eyelash curler is a cult product but my favourite is one I picked up from Avon which self heats. If your unsure it’s best to stick to a metal curler.

I had a little play with my new Manly palette. I have to admit, I did enjoy myself. I was a little overwhelmed by all of the colours but I eventually settled on Greens.

I used Jadet and Dark blue from the palette on the lide with a little Chartruese along the lashline. I like it, pretty for Spring. (more…)

Yay! Make-up Delivery: Manly 24 Eyeshadow Palette

'Tweet this' button

PIC_0647

I love when the post man delivers make-up! Today he brought me my 24 Manly eyeshadow palette. I was really excited about this delivery.

This palette was mentioned in lots of YouTube videos and beauty blogs so I decided to buy it and give it a try. I thought it would be great for more extreme and vibrant looks.

This palette is super cheap (under $20) and widely available online. It comes in s cute tin that reminded me of a kiddies art set (smells a little like dry water paints too). It also comes with a brush. There are 24 colours:

PIC_0653and here is what they look like on skin…

PIC_0658

Top: Ice, Shine Orange, Bright Red, Pink, Sapphire Blue, Black

Bottom: Ocean, Dark Blue, Coffee, Paris Green, Aztec Gold, Brown

PIC_0679

Top: Ice, Aztec Gold, Silver, Azalea, Cosmic Blue, Sun Yellow

Bottom: Iced Gold, Tangerine, Chartreuse, Jadet, Amethyst, Cosmic Violet

First impressions, the shadows are vibrant and very pigmented. Some are softer and more crumbly. They will probably perform better over a eye primer, with MAC fix plus or over a NYX jumbo pencil. I can’t wait to try them, full review and demo coming soon.

I ordered my palette from www.beauties-factory.com. They deliver worldwide. Shipping cost about €5 and delivered within 1 week of my ordering. They are also available on ebay.

The Many Ways to Wear MAC Sable Eyeshadow

'Tweet this' button

I was recently asked to recommend a few ways to wear MAC Sable eyeshadow. This is one of the most popular and most talked about MAC shadows so I thought I would share how I like to wear it. I would also love to hear how you use it.

My favourite ways to wear this eye shadow:

  • A brighter colour on the lid (usually green, purple or pink) and sable smudged right under the eye
  • Sable on the lid and a bright colour underneath the eye (I love a flash of turquoise, aquadisiac looks great under the eye with Sable on the lid)
  • Phloof (highight shade) on inner third of the eye, Sable on the middle and Antiqued (red brown) in the outer third.
  • All that Glitters (shimmery base colour) on the lid and Sable in the crease
  • Urban Decay Sin on the lid, Sable in the crease
  • Sable on the lid, Black Tied (black with flecks) in the outer corner

How do you wear Sable?

MAC Eyeshadow Wish List

'Tweet this' button

My kit includes a fair amount of MAC products. There are of course plenty of other brands in there but MAC definitely dominates. I love the eyeshadows, blush and lip products. Although I’m not a fan of their foundation or their mascaras.

I have to admit that I cheat a little as I have a MAC Pro card with the full Make-up artist discount. Because of this I tend to stick to MAC and then dabble in other brands. It occurred to me yesterday, whilst standing in the prescription queue at my local pharmacy, that for the price of Revlon Colourstay (in Ireland) I can buy a MAC foundation in the UK/US. This was a little sobering as I often think that I’m saving money by picking products up in Boots. I think it’s time I put my card to work.

Here is my current Eyeshadow wish list: (mostly for my kit) (more…)

Maybelline Quad – Enchanted Forest

'Tweet this' button

PIC_0110I picked up the Maybelline eyeshadow quad in Enchanted Forrest for a couple of dollars in the US a few months ago.

I have tried a few of the Maybelline quads before and I wasn’t impressed with the quality. But this particular quad came highly recommended. So I decided to give it a go today.

The colours work really well on blue and green eyes. These quads come with instructions on where to apply them. I didn’t follow this. I used the highlight shade on the lid, the lid colour in the crease and then the outer corner colour in well, the outer corner. I used the crease shade under the eye.

the pigmentation isn’t outstanding but it is nice. It’s perfect for day wear. I don’t think they are pigmented enough for a big night out though. They’re soft and easy to apply. Best of all, they are cheap!

Have you tried these yet?
