Amazing Hair, Nails & Skin

IMG_8555The benefits that omega 3 and 6 has on your skin, hair and nails are well known. I thought I would share two products I have been using simultaneously, one that I take in capsule form and the other I smear all over myself : )

 Outside

I have been using Mama Mio Omega Body Oil which is said to be superfood for your skin. I read somewhere ‘say goodbye to lizard skin’ and was sold. The skin on my legs is so dry at the moment. I also have post-pregnancy skin recovery going on so moisturising is very important. I should point out that you obviously don’t need to be pregnant to use this, just have crispy skin like myself : ) omega-body-oil_29Nov11_rgb__89055_zoom This oil slides on your skin so it’s much quicker to apply that a cream. The best bit about it for me is that it is a dry oil, I hate feeling sticky. It’s smells of sweet almond and jojoba, which is really just soft and natural if you have no idea what I’m talking about. It is recommended that you use it once a day on damp skin after your shower. I pay extra attention to my tummy since my skin is in the process of firming up there. I also make sure to apply it to my bum, hip and thighs for the lovely stretchmarks. It’s available from Debenhams, pharmacies and online and costs €27.

Inside

I have always taken an Omega supplement, even as a child. Over the years I’ve learned that the quality of the oil is of vital importance. Now I’m a firm believer in buying within your means so I have tried all different kinds of oils over the years. When I was expecting I raved about Mor EPA, it ended the dreaded ‘pregnancy brain’. I have since switched to Udo’s Choice (which is also suitable for pregnancy). P070026_L Omega 3 and 6 help combat  wrinkles, acne and inflammation, eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, cracked heels, dandruff, and even balances oily skin. For me it’s all about strong glossy hair, strong nails that don’t split and flake and radiant skin. When I forget to take my supplement for a week or so I notice a change in my all three, get grumpy and go pick up some more. Udo’s have a 6 Week Glow Challenge on their website, where you can log your results and get €4 off your next bottle. I will be doing just that. It’s available in oil and capsule form. The oil can be drizzled over salads of added to soups and smoothies. I tried this before with Viridian Beauty Oil (€13.45), which I also love. It’s a balance of 3:6:9 fatty acids and helps plump the skin amongst all of the other benefits for skin conditions like eczema and rosacea. 500 Ultimate Beauty Oil 200ml I have only tried the Udo’s choice capsules not the oil but it sounds just as good. The capsules are oils start at €14.99 which is a pretty good price for good quality supplements. Does anyone supplement?

New: White Musk Smoky Rose

Blackcurrant/blackberry scents are very popular at the moment. The Body Shop’s offering, White Musk Smoky Rose, has been on my locker for the past few weeks. It’s not unlike  Lanvin Couture or Lancome Midnight Rose but of course it’s far cheaper.

Does it smell like the original White Musk? Absolutely not. It’s quite a delicate scent, rose of course but much more than that. It’s warm and spicy, sweet yet a little mysterious.

  • Top notes: Bergamot, pink pepper, blackcurrant
  • Middle notes: Tobacco blossom, black rose, orange blossom, immortelle
  • Base Notes: Olibanum and white musk

Smokey rose is the the perfect name for this fragrance. The dry down is nice and nowhere near as musky as the first spray. It doesn’t wear very well on my skin unfortunately, four hours at most but other people may have better luck! I’m usually a fan of light scents, they suit my personality better. Musks and seductive scents aren’t really me. This one is for fans of heavier perfumes.

Definitely a stand out fragrance for The Body Shop.

  • €15.95 edt 30ml
  • €23.95 edt 60ml
  • This gift set is €32
  • €13.95 body lotion
  • €15.95 shower gel

New: YSL Rebel Nudes Lipstick (Review, Swatches & Pics)

You know how much I love a nude lip product! Well, YSL have decided that nude doesn’t stop at beige. These goodies are definitely not boring! They have launched Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres or Rebel Nude Lipsticks to us.

When I first saw the packaging I assumed this was a gloss. Wrong. It does go on quite creamy but it dries to a stain with a sheen. It’s quite unusual and not like any lip product I have tried to so far. Usually I find stains too intense and too drying, that is not the case with this gem.

Here’s how it looks on my sisters lips in natural daylight…

Indoors with flash so you can see the reflectiveness…

YSL Rebel Nudes Lipstick(Thank you little sister for lending me your beautiful lips!)

The photo above taken with flash over-exaggerates the iridescence. You can see a slight hint of it in natural light which is very flattering. I had to try a variety of lighting set ups and flash to show it to the extreme so don’t be scared of it :) It’s still natural.

They are made with a new formula and texture which as a I mentioned is unique. There is a brush instead of a doe foot applictaor which is a bonus for me. It’s far easier to apply this way. It feels fresh on the lips too. The best thing is that they have hold but they aren’t sticky!

One slick gives a natural colour and a little transparency. You can wait 20 seconds and apply a second coat which is what you see in the swatch pictures. You can lightly blend with your fingertip to tone down the effect if you wish. I do this last step with all glosses. I like a slightly smooshed look rather than super polished – I use the word ‘smooshed’ since it looks like someone has just kissed you :) Something YSL recommend is to mix & match shades, that’s not something I ever thought of doing, it could also get very expensive! Too rich for my blood I’m afraid.

The packaging is very beautiful. I love that you can see the shade through the tube. Also the brush is precise and delivers the right amount of product, without waste.

Choosing the right nude: There is one to suit every woman. No. 103 Pink No Tabboo, No.4 Fuchsia Tomboy and No.108 Violine Out of Control are the most intense. No.101 Nude Provocateur, No 106 Beige Anarchist and No.107 Naughty Mauve are the most transparent. There are also two orangey tones for ladies with fair skin – No.102 Corail Mutin and No.105 Corail Hold Up.

It’s rare for a product to surprise me but this one sure has. They cost €33 each so these bad boys are for a payday treat!

Any fans?

NEW 1 Hour Tan: Karora Express Bronzing Mousse

karora2

KARORA Supreme Bronzette Express Bronzing Mousse 150ml (bottle and box)

SUPREME BRONZETTE MODEL

The new tan from Karora, Express Bronzing Mousse, has a quick self-tan development time that allows you to decide how bronze you would like to be. US beauty editors recently referred to it as the “Versace of the tanning world”. With an endorsement like that I had to try it. Well that pic of the girl in their ad…wow, I would love that colour. I would also like that body but I fear it would cost me more than the price of a bottle of tan!  :)

The velvety mousse is easy to apply with a tanning mitt and develops in an hour. Like all rapid tans you will get a better result the longer you leave it on but in one hour you will have a healthy glow. I like products like these since I detest the smell of fake-tan. This way I can rinse it off in rapid time and have the colour without 7 more hours of tan smelling skin. Leaving the product on for two hours gives you a hint more tint.

For a darker bronze it is recommended that you leave the mousse on for three hours. That was fine by me. I applied it in the evening time when I knew I was going out later on. I used a mitt to rub it in at 5pm, had my dinner, did my hair, makeup and chose my outfit. Then I rinsed the tan off at 8pm, applied some nicely scented moisturiser, got dressed and walked out the door and into a taxi  by 8.30pm.

The tan is said to be custom colour so it suits your natural skin tone. It’s not orange, very important. If you have an Irish skin tone like me you will not look ridiculous this Autumn/Winter. The scent is quite delicate, nothing too over-powering. Like any tan worth it’s weight in gold it does have the usual  dha smell whilst developing.

As far as application and developing time goes here are the recommendations:

1 hour: Light Tan

2 hours: Deeper tan

3 hours: Rich dark bronze

The tan also contains botanical extracts, aloe, acai berry, green tea, argan and bergamot oil to renew the skin and help improve your complexion.

The bottom line

I love it!! Sweet lamb of divine this is my new holy grail tan. It goes on better than any tan I have tried, pure luxury. Best of all you can’t possible mess up the application. It doesn’t dry too fast so you have time to blend with the mit. As I mentioned I left it on for three hours and showered it off and the colour was so beautiful! I couldn’t believe it. I had quite a few compliments on my tan too which is always good. I know you’re probably wondering how it lasts. Well for me it lasted 5-6 days before fading. I should point out that I shower twice a day and run regularly so I really put the tan to the test. I moisturise every day and exfoliate once a week so I didn’t change this step at all. Will I repurchase? 100% yes! I think my St Tropez Mousse affair may have finally come to an end.

In the interest of balance I’m trying to think of a downside. It’s definitely one of those tans that you apply at home and stay there until you wash it off. The tan developer needs to be fairly decent to product such a gorgeous colour in such a short time. Most tans need over-night application to get a tan this deep and well I just can’t stand the stink that long. You can also feel the product on your skin after application. For me that just means it’s rich which is necessary in a tan for those with any dry skin. Fast drying, tans tend to cling to me in the wrong sort of way. I’m re-applying this evening so I will start with an exfoliation, then apply, wear my shorts and tea-shirt around the house for 3 hours and rinse. Voila, done for another week.

A bottle costs €29.99 for 150ml. To me that’s a fairly decent price although I tend to compare all tan prices to my St Tropez Mousse which to me is splashing out. It’s available from Doc Morris, McCabes Sam McCauleys and pharmacies around Ireland. It is of course available worldwide.

Hand De-Age Cream by Dr Ceuticals

hand2

I was very impressed with Dr Ceuticals Tone & Tan so I was delighted when a sample of their Hand De-Age Cream SPF15 arrived at my door. I always use hand cream but to be honest I never really think of SPF. I’ve always been more focused on keeping them soft but now that I’m getting on in years (hee hee) I should probably protect my hands from damage. After all, hands are a dead giveaway Continue Reading
