Cheapest primer ever – Penneys Prime of your Life

Since I love Penneys (Primark) brow kit so much I decided to see what else they had on offer makeup wise. Enter the cheapest primer ever!

It’s appropriately named Prime of Your Life. I think it costs €3. The packaging is quite cute and from the swatch is feels light and creamy. It evened out the skin on my hand and plumped up the skin a little.

I have to say that I don’t consider primer a necessity. In fact I use either a moisturiser or a primer, I don’t use both. Some primers can leave your makeup looking a little flat so I was keen to give this one a go.

I wore it under my makeup today and I like it. It’s definitely not a necessity but great for those ladies who do benefit from the use of a primer. I will happily use this for the next few weeks. Would I repurchase? I’ll get back to you.

How do you feel about primer?

I was just wondering if you could recommend a good powder to set make up that doesn’t contain titanium dioxide. I usually use MAC mineralize skinfinish in natural medium but I’ve seen on you tube from several people that this is supposed to have a bleach effect on camera so am looking for an alternative. I have very oily skin as well so powder is a must!

@Sarah Hi Sarah, Make up For Ever do a great one. Generally transluscent powders are the worst culprit for titanium dioxide. Your best bet is to go in to a shop that sells make-up for make-up artists as most comercial powders have titanium.

Elf has a couple different versions of primer *regular, mineral, and I believe studio* I haven’t tried them all but the one I do have *the regular elf one* works nicely and is easy to apply and for $1 you can’t beat the price. I use it mainly for travel because if I happen to lose it well it’s only a dollar to replace.

Hi Amy, I look forward to the post!

I’ve been underwhelmed to be honest. I haven’t had any side effects such as the white bumps I think you mentioned in the video which were brought on by another eye cream. But I haven’t noticed any difference. It’s the first eye cream I’ve bought though so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I’m 25 and I’m starting to see a few wrinkles around my eyes when I smile. I’m also living in Rio de Janeiro at the moment and I’m getting a lot of sun (so thanks to becky am now going to check out this MAC spf50 primer!) So that’s why I added an eye cream to my little nightly routine. I should probably try another one to compare results to the Lush. Thinking of Neal’s Yard or La Roche Posay. But I don’t know what I was expecting in the first place! I guess it was because lollipop26 did a rave about the Kiehl’s avocado eye cream and that got me experimenting with a cheaper alternative!

Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy your blog and videos. I’m Irish too, from Holywood, near Belfast. Going home for a while in a week and going to be hitting up Superdrug, here in Brazil the taxes on imported goods are so high that I can’t buy cosmetics! I saw a Bourjois lipstick for about 30 pounds! Incredible. MAC lipsticks are about 28 pounds! The only thing that’s great value here is nail varnish. Manicures are very cheap and bottles of varnish are about 80p. They have great variety and new collections springing up every few months following international trends. Great fun :)

Hi Amy! This is off the topic but do you remember when you made a video on some Lush products you’d purchased? I have been using the Enchanted Eye Cream since Christmas and would love to know how you got on with it.

I love primer! I use it everyday under my foundation. I tried the mac prep & prime. For me it was only ok, I finished it but I didnt repurchase. I am currently using the gosh one, for me it’s much better and i’m on my second bottle.

Feeling a bit guilty for ripping it out of my best friend for buying some pennys makeup… I am now feeling overly curious, will most certainly be picking some up in the next few days, especially since i’ve nearly run out of primer.

I like primers, I have combination skin so feel I kinda need it.

I use MAC face primer, UD lash primer (love) UD EPP (love) and recently tried the ELF lip primer (do not like)

I think after reading this blog I will check out more of what Primark have to offer, I have bought make-up there before but must admit I’ve not yet actually used it.

I’ve been using this for the past mouth its not half that bad. I’m the same I don’t think Primer is completely necessary but I do like to use it under my eye make up and under my eyes…. this is a cheaply and also a nice one xxx

      @becky Agreed! :) x

I love primer. It Keeps my eye makeup on longer and helps with creasing. My favorite is the Urban Decay but Elf makes a really nice one considering the price of it.

@Kristin Oooh elf you say? Hm maybe I need to check that one out too haha

The packaging looks just like the Benefit That Gal primer…might have to try this one out. I do use primer…mainly a mattifying one though to help prevent my nose and forehead oiling up too much during the day

    • http://www.makeupandbeauty.ie Amy

@Emma That’s exactly what it looks like! I noticed this helped my makeup stay on my chin today and I did a lot of running around!

I wasn’t a fan of primer until I recently bought MAC Prep & Prime SPF 50. I mainly bought it because I wanted something with a high spf but I absolutely adore it. My foundation goes on much more even and lasts all day. I don’t know how I lived without it! I’d be interested to try this one :)

    • http://www.makeupandbeauty.ie Amy

@Hannah Oh Hannah you are bad for my purse haha. I have been wanting to try the mac SPF 50 prep & prime but have been talking myself out of it. Now with your glowing review I need to get it :)

  • Mise

Do Penneys do an eye primer Amy? I love Urban Decay’s one, but hate the fact that so much of it gets wasted and left in the tube, and if you cut the tube to get it out, then it dried up really quickly.

    • http://www.makeupandbeauty.ie Amy

@Mise They don’t have eye primer yet :( The new UD primer potion comes with a bent wand so we can actually get out the rest of the product. I agree, very annoying!
