E.l.f (Eyes Lips Face) is one of those brands that we hear YouTube guru’s and bloggers talking about frequently. It’s super cheap and they offer a wide range of products. I was sent two of their $1 Shimmer Eyeliner Pencils for consideration. Here is my tuppence worth.

e.l.f Shimmer Eyeliner Pencils in Grassy Green and Boldly Bronzed
Ok, the good points: The cost $1.The pigmentation upon application is great. The liners are also smooth and very easy to apply to the eye. You can even smudge and blend them with a brush or your finger without any hassle. They provide more shimmer than glitter.

The downside? Yes, there usually is one – they don’t set. If after an hour you absently rub your eye you could smudge the line. In saying that they do last longer than most ‘drugstore’ liners but only if you don’t touch your eyes at all. I wear contact lenses and touch my eyes quite frequently. I still really like the shimmer liners so I may just powder over a little to keep them in place.
If you’re not a face toucher than these are seriously impressive for $1! You can’t really go wrong for this price. They’re also more pigmented than most coloured ‘drugstore’ liners I have tried.
I don’t know how suitable these are for use on the waterline (inner rim) but I’m not sure I want to apply a shimmer liner in these anyway. I’ll stick to matte for my waterline for now!
Considering the price of elf products you would imagine that teens would be their target audience, yet they don’t sell in stores, only online. If I was 15 there wouldn’t be a chance is hell that my parents would have allowed me use their credit card to order make-up, regardless of how cheap it was.
These shades are available from the US site now but don’t seem to be on the UK site just yet. I’m sure they’re on their way.
Do you recommend any elf products?

Good day! Would you mind if I share your blog with my facebook group? There’s a lot of people that I think would really appreciate your content. Please let me know. Many thanks
I’ve just purchased 2 of these pencils and its true they don’t set, however if you apply a powder eyeshadow on them they set perfectly and you are still left with tons of shimmer from the pencil! Love the studio and the mineral line from elf, rarely been disappointed with the quality and the price is obviously a bonus! :)
Just got a shipment from e.l.f yesterday- I got mineral foundation, the concealer corrector palette, a mineral eyeshadow, gel eyeliner, kabuki brush (omg sooo soft!), pencil brush, 2 nail polishes and a lipstick.
So far tried them all apart from the polishes, but the polishes look promising. Fairly happy with all the products.
elf is sold in stores in the US (like at Target) so maybe I’ll give this a try for $1. Like you though, I am a serious eye toucher with contacts and eye allergies so maybe just for special occasions.
I have been buying from ELF for the last year and a half i am in love with their studio line. A few things in their mineral line are good, the eyeshadows are amazing and so pigmented, the mineral booster is excellent after applying foundation no titanium dioxide, and their mineral lipsticks are so soft and pigmented. Did you know that their empty palette fits mac eyeshadows and it is only €1.75. I am on their facebook site and once a month they announce with a code that free shipping is about to happen. The Studio eyeprimer/liner is the best primer i have ever used you only need a tiny amount, and the other end the liner turns eyeshadow into a eyeliner and is brilliant if you apply it the whole lid and put some glitter on. When i saw these eyeliners my first thought was not apply them as eyeliner but as a base all over and then apply eyeshadow they remind me of the 24/7 urban decay. Can you just imagine the gunmetal with a silver over it, hmmmmmmmm. Check out littlekiva on youtube she raves about some the ELF product and with demos.
A few years ago my sister told me about elf products and I bought a set of products – brushes, eyeshadows, blushes, lip glosses, black pencil, and a few other things. I really like the eyeshadow brushes – the other brushes I thought were not soft at all – actually kind of hurt putting powder and blush on. I haven’t tried the studio line brushes though. I thought the $1 eyeshadows were not that great – I mean some of them had no color pay off at all – but some were ok. Again – haven’t tried the studio line yet. Loved the lip glosses though – all of them are great! We have elf products in our Target – but I heard that might not continue – lets hope that is a bad rumor.
I’m actually going to take this girl I used to babysit shopping for make up because she is finally allowed to wear some. elf is definitely something I’m going to get for her. Love your blog honey – thanks!
Yep definitely very hit and miss, but for that price what can we expect. You’re lucky you have access to the stuff in store. We’re so left out over here :( boo hoo
Yeah I will definitely have to check out your swapsies because there are some products out there that I would love to try out that are not available here.
I love ELF, great website! I have some of their studio line, its great! :) xx
I agree Hannah, studio line is better than the original line x
I’ve purchased from E.L.F. before and am waiting on my 2nd haul. I might give these a miss though. If you want to take a look at my blog for the first haul of E.L.F. reviews.
Thanks
Thanks for the review. I have purchased a few E.L.F products and allways base my purchases on reviews. I think I’ll give these a miss. I have reviewed the ones I own on my blog with more to come in the post, if you want to take a look.!
Thanks
Thanks Flora :)
If we’re referring to the same product, the elf uk site has these shimmer eyeliner pencil as you can see from the link below :) but sadly they’re out of stock but I’ve read some comments on their facebook page that they’re going to be in stock soon.
I’ve bought the gunmetal and boldly bronzed and they awesome :)
oooh gunmetal sounds good :) Must check it out!
I love the pigmentation – also like the fact that they’re not simply glitter. I also found some Avon shimmering eyeliners and have ordered them in – I’m curious if the setting problem occurs with those as well (hopefully not!).
Other ELF products I would recomend are the studio blushes. I actually like the fact that these are subtle and gorgeous colours and use them daily. Also the studio highlight is brilliant.
Great posts, keep them comin’ ;)
Ooh let me know how you get on with the avon liners :)
Thanks for the recommendations!!’
Amy x
These looks so pigmented, thanks for the swatches A, I think I’ll give these a try. For $1 you can’t really go wrong
I know! So cheap :)
I have used Avon’s glimmerstick in Blue Flare & i absolutely love it !!! its again more on the shimmery side than glittery. I have used it on to line my lids as well on my lower lash line. The best part is the line comes out so straight & defined. I’m not that great with eyeliner application but luckily this comes out just perfect.
Oh and i so agree with you thay should probably start selling elf in stores as well !!
I love these! I have only tried the grey/silver one though. It’s so good., agree with the face touching issue though :)
Maybe they’ll improve it and make it a total miracle liner for $1! haha
These looks great!!!! Thanks for sharing, look forward to their UK arrival :) x
Thanks Camelia :)
