Heart Shaped Face: How to balance a Heart-Shaped Face

Before we get started if you’re unsure about what face shape you have click here to find out.

People with a heart-shaped face have a forehead that is wider than their jaw, with  a narrow chin.

Celebrities with heart-shaped faces include Jennifer Love Hewitt, Reece Witherspoon, Faith Hill and Heather Graham.

Here are some tips to balance a heart shaped face:

  • Avoid applying blusher high on the apples of the cheeks. The emphasises the width of the top half of the face.
  • Apply your blusher slightly lower than your cheekbones.
  • Dust some shader on the tip of the chin.
  • Shade the temples to help minimize the width of the upper part of the face. Blend into the hairline.

Amy is do you have to use bronzer in your make-up routine? I think I have a thin enough face but think its making my face wider….could I put my blusher where the bronzer should go?

    • Amy

      Hi Grainne,
I’m not sure what you mean about where I mention bronzer?
It’s not so much the products you use, ie bronzer or blush. it’s all about where you apply them.
Where I talk about shading, I wouldn’t really use a bronzer in those areas are rarely matte – if they reflect light or contain bronzing / illuminating particles then they will only emphasise width. A matte contour powder is better. I definitely wouldn’t use blush for shading if that’s what you mean. Blush generally makes an area ‘pop’ out, where as darker contouring shades recede.

On another note, every face is different. It’s about experimenting until you find the effect you like yourself :)

        Hi amy
yeah you didnt say anything about bronzer thats why I was just wondering is it essential in the make up routine? like I think I have a love heart shaped face so I have started to use bronzer as a contour under my blush but I think this may be making my face look wider if that is possible! Not very good with make-up but have tried a good few ways with the bronzer which is matte by the way and I still think I am getting the same effect!
Sorry extremely bad at getting my point across! x
