I have my eye on Urban Decay ‘The Black Palette’

I have had my eye on Urban Decay’s The Black Palette for a while now. I like the idea of jewel shades created from mixing black with other colours. That being said I could always just apply a dark eyeshadow base under any of the eyeshadows I already own. Yet, this palette has stayed fresh in my mind.

The palette contains five dipped-in-black eyeshadows, each iced with color to reveal a veiled shift of blue, green, purple, gold or silver. They have included their deepest, darkest matte black eyeshadow, Black Dog. MAC’s Carbon is my favourite  matte black so I could really do without the last one.

I would love this palette for creating smokey eyes.

The set also comes with a travel-sized 24/7 Eye Pencil in Zero (I can never have too many of them!)  and a mini genie bottle of Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden, which is a matte nude.

The 6 eyeshadows : Black Dog (richest matte black), Barracuda (black with silver sparkly shift), Jet (black with purple sparkly shift), Sabbath (black with blue sparkly shift), Cobra (black with golden sparkly shift), Libertine (black with emerald sparkly shift). Travel-size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil: Zero (black). Travel-size Eyeshadow Primer Potion: Eden (matte nude).

What do you think – necessity or pass?

I got the UD Black Palette as a gift and was delighted when I seen it! But I have to be honest, I’m not overly thrilled by it.. The idea behind it is great, all you should need for creating a dramatic look with intense colours but I’m really not mad about the quality. Maybe mine is just a bad batch, but I find when I apply any of the colours, say apart from “Black Dog” they just come out a sooty uneven black. I have never ended up wearing these shadows out, I always take them off because they don’t look nice! I find them extremely hard to work with, particularly the blue and purple shades, they go on patchy and don’t blend well, and worst of all the colour never shines through! That being said, love the packaging, as always! Love the 24/7 liner and the Primer Potion also! But I would not personally recommend this palette! Sorry Amy, ended up ranting on a bit!

I love the urban decay stuff. I have a review below of the book of shadows vol III i heart NYC.

The fallout bugs me a bit but not enough to not use the palette.

I have this, and the shades come out beautifully. I just wish I went on enough nights out to get some use out of it!

I actually bought this palette when it first came out and honestly it’s been a bit of a disappointment, the idea is lovely but a couple of the colours look so similar, especially on the eye that there really is no point. The beauty of a palette for me is that you can use the eye shadows together, and create a look just from the one palette…if that makes sense. With the Black palette, because all the shadows are essentially black you have to find other shadows to mix with it, if you want a certain shade to stand out. It was so disappointing because ‘UD’ is normally so good with palettes. Perhaps it’s just the way I like to use palettes but it just didn’t work for me. Sorry about the long comment, and if you can think of some way of making this palette work please let me know. Can’t wait to get my hands on the eyeliner set though! :D
