I picked up Johnson’s Holiday Skin Facial Moisturiser in Boots last summer. I was looking for a gradual tanner designed for use on the face, that wouldn’t give me a breakout or leave me looking tangoed. There are so many of these products on the market but I chose this one because it is designed for normal to combination skin (the also sell one for normal to dry skin).
Scent wise it doesn’t stink. When applying it smells quite fresh. It didn’t smell that gross whilst it was developing, although it’s practically impossible to mask that smell.
Unfortunately after 3 days of application I didn’t see a whole lot of difference to my skins colour. I think this is best for very fair skinned ladies. If you have a medium, olive or darker skin tone this may not show up on you at all. The only really good thing for me is that it didn’t break me out.
Although it’s a cheaper price than most it works out much more expensive per gram that the body version. That’s a massive rip off in my opinion.
If you are fair it might be worth a visit.I’ll have to stick to St Tropez or St Moriz.
Whilst I’m on the subject I had a really bad experience using the Johnson’s gradual tanner for the body, here’s the video from last summer…

Emma I picked up a bottle of the Neutrogena stuff in the two euro shop last week. it went a bit blotchy on my body cos I put my clothes on too soon after as was rushing to work but the colour was nice.
The body one just DOESNT work for me so ive been steering clear of this! and it wouldnt wash off if it went blotchy.
i find non-washable ones always come out blotchy on me. want to try a facial tanner but scared!
@Ciara It’s no where near as bad as the body one. But there are other brands that are much better. I prefer nivea x
I tried Avenne’s face and body for face only and I am really happy with the gradual & subtle but noticeable glow. I agree that dove is fine for the rest of your body.
I use ‘Clarins Delicious Self Tanning Cream’. You can use it on face and body. And I love it! It gives a beautiful color. It doesn’t smell bad, but I think the smell is a little strong. So I use it at night.
Love from Holland. x
I use L’oreal sublime gel tanner. It’s not specifically for the face but gives a great colour and have had lots of colleagues telling me how healthy I look when I wear it!
@ Shineandsparkle29 I used to use sublime gel on my face for years, great colour!
I use a facial tanner by Lavera, it’s the only one that doesn’t irritate my skin, block my pores or cause a breakout.
I can’t use products by Johnson’s as my skin gets really irritated by them.
@Lyndsey It’s so hard to find one that doesn’t irritate!
The Dove gradual tanner for the body is really good. I saw a difference after a few nights! Haven’t tried the face one though x
@Stephanie I like the dove body too, didn’t know they had one for face x
I used an entire bottle of Johnsons holiday skin and was still snow white at the end of it! My sister-in-law says the dove gradual tanner is quite good though, but I haven’t tried it yet.
@Mise haha you poor thing! It didn’t show up on my friend either. The dove it great
i love the Neutrogena Pure Glowin my opinion its the best one 5-7euro i think???!! ha . but must say its brilliant you can notice a difference after 1 use and im not that fair! and doesnt break me out! result= excellent :P
@emma Oooh thanks for this, will keep an eye out :)
Right now I use a mousse tanner from ROC. I think it’s been discontinued though which isn’t good! I don’t find those gradual tanners work on my face at all. I have to use actual self tanners to get any color!
@Amanda I used the roc facial tanner for a while, must give the mousse a whirl :)
I use the Olay face tanner. When i wake up in the mornin after puttin it on i dont nessecarily look tanned, my skin just looks really clear and healthy, so its brilliant from that perspective if you dont want to wear makeup over it…and no breakouts x
@Jocelyn I never thought to see if Olay had one! I will check it out thanks :)x
