Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation

12

This foundation is award winning; Allure Best of Beauty Editors’ Choice – Best Foundation – October 2009 and In Style Best Beauty Buy – Best Oil-Free Foundation – April 2009.

I had to try it. Had to I tell you! Here’s what I think:

The Good:

  • Good Coverage
  • Feels Soft

The Bad:

  • It made my skin look flat and lifeless. I can’t stand make-up that makes me look 1 dimensional.
  • It transferred to my shirt.
  • Poor Range of Shades : There are 11 shades in the range. The make-up Assistant at the Laura Mercier stand had difficulty finding a shade to match my skintone. There is not a wide enough variety of shades.
  • Price: Very expensive. A foundation in this price range should be without fault.
  • It smells like plasticine
  • Dried out my blemish. My make-up looked crusty over the top. Yuck!
  • Tricky to apply because of it’s consistency
  • The cap doesn’t stay on

Would I buy it again? I think the long list of ‘bads’ above answer that question.  I would like to try their foundation for normal skin though.

What do you think?

Hi I’ve got combination skin & for the last few months I’ve been using No.7 medium tinted moisturiser which i do like but can look a little shiny..I was wondering should I start using oil free moisturiser & oil free foundation..I’ve got hormonal acne & I thought if I started using oil free it could reduce the acne..what would u recommend? :)

Thank you for the honest review. This one is probably not for me by the sounds of it.

Wow I am really surprised that this foundationm did not work for you. I have really dry skin, and I once used Mac studio fix fluid, I stopped because it started to stick to my dry parts and it looked horrible. This was when I found this foundation, I have been using this for 3 weeks now and really like it. It has helped my skin a lot and also put moisture back into my skin, rather than drying it out. It just goes to show how different products work on different people x

Steph, I think it doesn’t work on me because it feels waxy, that might be why it works so well with your skin type. I wish it worked for me!

Amy, I have this foundation and I hate it, it’s everything the right foundation should not be. Well for me anyway. And I sooo wanted to love it.

I’ve never tried that one. But I have tried her tinted moisturizer which I enjoy. For some reason though, I didn’t enjoy it the first time I tried it as it was a little weird feeling on my skin. I do wish I would have gotten the illuminating or oil free one. The oil free tinted moisturizer has a much heavier coverage. The illuminating one seams to give a nice glow on my hand. The regular one (I have) I just top off with either their loose powder (which won awards and is quite nice) or with a mac msf natural.

My advice, go back to the counter and bring yourself a mini tub (like dazzledust size) and say you just purchased that one from her and don’t like it. Say you’d like a little bit of the other kind to try it.

I’ve been using off foundations I don’t like by mixing them in my hand with spf creams. They are lighter in coverage…but atleast I feel I’m getting a little bit of worth out of my expenses :) Good Luck Amy! Love your blogs and videos *^^*

Amy, what foundation would you recommend? I’m combination oily skin and I hate very matte look.

Foundation is sooo hard to buy!! And everyone has different skin. Thanks for the review on this. I don’t think I’ll try it now. I don’t really like 1-dimensional makeup either and the cap is bad, because if it’s that expensive, at least the packaging should hold up.
Btw, in that fantastic pic of Audrina on your web page it looks as if she is wearing the wrong undertone of makeup. It looks like a pink undertone. Although I have always been a fan of her style and her eye makeup, I hate the “face one colour, body other very different colour”-look. Take care xox

Haha. Just by looking at the bads I was like, this must be a really bad foundation.
