MAC Face & Body Foundation

I have decided to review all of MAC’s foundations. I am often asked which product I recommend for different skin types etc. I will start with the lightest coverage, Face and Body Foundation.

This foundation is water based, longer lasting than oil based products. It feels quite runny when you squeeze it out. I find the scent a little off-putting. I wouldn’t let that deter you though, I have a nose like a bloodhound. It reminds me of Calpol 6 plus (no, not the yummy pink one).

I like using this foundation on clients who need very little coverage, the ones blessed with fantastic skin. It’s also useful for use on men for television, photoshoots etc as it’s very natural.

It looks fantastic when applied with 187 Duo Fibre Brush (sigma 187 or an duo fibre brush). I like to take plenty of time buffing it into the skin. When applied well it looks like skin rather than foundation.

MAC have a full range of shades and with 120ml in each bottle you won’t be running out any time soon. It’s also fantastic value for money when you consider the amount of product you get.

I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking for coverage. This foundation evens out the skintone but doesn’t offer much coverage if you have imperfections. You could use this and then apply concealer to your troublesome areas. Then again you might not want the hassle. If the latter is the case I would give this one a miss and go for a foundation that offers more coverage.

Bottom line, it’s a staple in my kit but unfortunately I don’t often get to use it on myself as my skin can be temperamental.

What do you think of Face and Body?

It starts out sheer, but coverage is buildable. I use this in my kit, and find that it’s the most versatile, because whether the client has perfect or flawed skin, it can be evened out using F&B. Try applying a second layer after the first layer dries. You’ll find that you get better coverage.

I just started using Face and Body by MAC, and I have to say that it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. As a Make Up Artist, I am constantly trying to find the best type of foundation for first skin, second coverage, and then to answer the question, what would I use for certain events. Face and Body is buildable when wanting more coverage. However for the summer, I think it is the best choice for a natural look when paired with a mineralizer. Now to build my kit, I must get them all…. Look out clients, here I come.

Hi I know this post is ancient but just had to comment! :) I’d heard loads of great things about this product! I bought it myself about half a year ago and loved it for a few weeks, I dont need much coverage thankfully and enjoyed the texture as I have quite dry skin! I found though that after about five hours it would be completely gone off my skin! And then, the product in my bottle began separating and turning into a disgusting mess! I researched this and came to the conclusion it was gone off! After about two months of having it! Was so disappointed, maybe my bottle was a dud?! Anyway it has now been emptied down my sink and is in my Back To Mac collection! At least I’ll get a nice lippie out of it! :)

    Amy,

This is the next thing I’m purchasing from MAC! You sell me on everything you talk about. I better watch out for your future reviews! =)

Thanks for the review! I was always curious about this foundation. My foundation that I love and always come back to is Estee Lauder Double Wear. I love it! It’s the “body” part of this foundation that I’m curious about? Have you used it on your body?

Oh and pink Calpol…I think I was an addict!! :-) I tried a spoon of my nephew’s recently and I think they’ve done a bit of tampering! Definitley not as sugary but always nicer than the six plus! It was a tough transition!

Aoife, It’s very useful for neck and chest, sometimes on a shoot I even use it on legs. It does transfer a bit without powder though.

Thank you so much for this review! I got this for Christmas, and finally got around to applying it with my MAC 187 brush. I have trouble getting used to wearing foundation at all, as this is my first one to own ever. So it was easy for me to see that maybe I need a better moisturizer cause it seemed, at least to my untrained eye, to cling to my dry bits. But I am determined to use it, as I researched foundations for months until deciding on this one. Again, thank you so much for this review :) So helpful (and encouraging) :)

THANKS! I am 15 years old and do not need alot of coverage/want something water based. The only thing I dont like is that it doesn’t have an SPF. but thats ok. I think I am going to still buy it. (:

I have this, the only problem I have with it is that I find it quite drying. Even when I use moisturiser!
