My beauty column in the Metro Herald today was inspired by a topic that has been on my mind lately – beauty in pregnancy. I was limited word count wise and I really have a whole lot more to say on the topic- not really surprising eh? so I will follow up with a more extensive post.
Everywhere I look there is abundance of ladies in full bloom, myself included. So how do you keep yourself looking beautiful during your 40 week baby-growing stint? Time for some tips.
Stretch marks are an issue for many pregnant women. If like me you are not one of minority blessed with great genes you will need to take some precautions against the blasted tiger stripes. Mama Mio Tummy Rub Stretch Mark Oil (€27 Cloud10beauty.com) and Bepanthen Stretch Mark Cream (€27.99) did the trick for me. Take it from me, don’t just apply lotion to your bump, smear it on hips, sides, chest and bum. If all else fails, smack on a bit of fake tan and wear them proudly!
During pregnancy your skin is often more sensitive and some of us, yes the unlucky, end up with pregnancy mask. This hyper-pigmentation usually disappears after birth but it’s best to avoid it in the first place. A good SPF is essential. MURAD Perfecting Day Cream SPF 30 (€48.50 Therapie Clinics) is the bees knees. If you prefer something tinted try Image Daily Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 (€41.50) which is fabulous and a favourite of mine.
You may also need to change your skincare routine a little. Out with the harsh chemicals and in with nourishing goodness. During my pregnancy I completely fell in love with Una Brennan Super Facialist Rose Hydrate Calming Creamy Cleanser (Boots). It softens, cleanses and makes skin feel a million euros.
If you’re plagued with varicose veins do what the rest of us do and reach for the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs (€16.95). It’s now available in a lotion – which your bathroom will thank you for.
I’m off to work on the full post – it may be long :)
I have a post scheduled for 6am in the morning. Oh yes, I’m on the ball this evening.
Hope everyone is well!
