Boots Natural Collection Lipsticks

'Tweet this' button

PIC_0484Hey girlies,

A little while ago I was asked to show you my Natural Collection Lipsticks. I have 6 of them (misplaced one today). They are super cheap but quite good quality. Despite my ever growing collection of MAC lipsticks I still reach for these cheapies just as often.

Natural Collection is a Boots brand which is available in all of their branches. I don’t rate their eyeshadows at all but I do love their lippies.

My favourite is Apple Blossom, a peachy nude. It’s great for muting out lip colour without making it look like you have a mouth full of concealer. I also like mixing it with brighter shades of lipstick, a clever way of injecting a bit of colour when you’re terrified of brights. Rose petal is also gorgeous, it’s a wearable soft pink.

The picture above and below; left to right:

Apple Blossom, Rose Petal, Sand Castle, Sorbet, Crimson.

Apple Blossom, Rose Petal and Crimson are richer in texture than the others. Sand Castle and Sorbet are much more sheer.

Have you tried Natural Collection lipstick? What is your favourite?

Celebrity Inspired Make-Up Tutorial: Nicola Roberts

'Tweet this' button

This is my sister Eimear. I decided to use her in today’s tutorial as my model since she’s so pretty. We did this for a bit of fun really (we had to edit out 23 minutes of giggling). We love playing with wigs! The make-up is inspired my Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud (see picture below). I hope you all enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed making it. Here’s a picture of the finished look:

Make-up 101: Choosing foundation for you Skin Type

'Tweet this' button

Most people I come across use liquid foundation. I get so many questions about what foundations to use for a particular skin type. I thought I would post a little information about the types available to help those of you who are new to make-up choose the right one for you.

Many women (myself included) choose foundations based on friends recommendations. That can work out fine but more often then not you won’t get the same finish your friend got. You have to consider your own skin type and your suitability to the product. For this reason most of us are on a quest for the the Holy Grail foundation. In reality what is holy grail for you, may not be for the next girl.

When we delve in to foundations it’s clear why finding the perfect one is such a long journey of trial and error.

There are 3 things to consider 1.The type of foundation 2. The Coverage and 3. The Finish

Liquid Foundation:

These can be oil or water based. It is important to check which and factor in your skin type. If you have oily skin and you choose an oil based foundation, chances are you’ll end up with a shiny face a few hours in, or even have no make-up left.

If you have dry skin and you choose a water based foundation it could be too drying leaving a caked on look. If you have normal skin you will probably get away with either but you’ll probably have to experiment to find one that’s perfect.

Finishes:

  • Matte: Zero shine
  • Luminous: glowing, shimmery
  • Satin/Velvet: Semi-matte finish

Coverage:

  • Invisible: For very clear skin. Less than 50% pigment
  • Sheer: Light coverage for skin that has a few tiny flaws
  • Medium: Covers around 60%
  • Full: Bad acne, scars, birthmarks etc Can look very heavy. No need to use all over

No wonder it’s taking us so long to find ‘the one’. When I am considering a foundation purchase I factor in type, coverage and finish. If they tick the 3 boxes I am a happy woman.

My tanning Issues

'Tweet this' button

Ok it’s that time of year. I am gone beyond pasty with no sunlight in my near future. Now if you’re one of those ladies blessed with beautiful fair skin that stays that way all year round, I’m well jealous. At least you have skin tone consistency, so much easier to work with.

I am not so fortunate. My skins darkens quite a bit in the Summer and then fades gradually ’til February, when it can’t possibly fade anymore. The contrast between July and February is ridiculous. None of the make-up I bought works on my skin anymore. That aside, I look a little anemic.

It has left me wishing that I had the sort of fair skin that doesn’t tan. I can’t seem to work with the colour of my skin at the moment, everything looks wrong. Every smidgen of discoloration seems more noticeable. I am so tempted to try a bit of St Tropez into my  moisturiser but I dare not go down that path. If I start, there will be no stopping me. My tanorexia days are done.

As you may already know, I was once a Winter self tan addict.  I needed a support group to ween me off the dark stuff. I haven’t touch the tan bottle in almost a year and am happy about that. I don’t miss smelling like biscuits, stained bed sheets, dealing with streaks or smelling like a rubber glove for a week. But I do miss the fresh face!

With Spring on our doorstep my commitment to the tan ban is waning. Must. Stay. Strong.

Are many of you relying on tan this season?

Cellulite….ick!

'Tweet this' button

I have received quite a few questions about cellulite lately. I’m no expert. My brief run in with the dreaded orange peel was short lived thanks to 7 cups of Dr Stewarts Detox Tea daily over a week. Excesseive? Certainly. Necessary? Absolutely.

The tea worked a treat because I noticed a small patch of cellulite one day and two days after I started hammering back the detox tea  (I bought it in Holland and Barret). That was  about 4 years ago and I haven’t seen any since. At the time my diet was sinful. I eat fairly healthily now and have no cellulite issues. (touch wood)

I’m assuming the  tea worked because the cellulite was newly formed. For more stubborn stuff you’re gona have to work a little harder. With this in mind, and bikini season approaching, (more…)

Bridal Series: Blemishes

'Tweet this' button

Ok so spots aren’t what you dream of for your big day but sometimes they are a reality. Stress and diets reek havoc on the skin.

To conceal blemishes  you will need a dryer, solid concealer in your makeup arsenal. You don’t want the spot to look cakey but if the concealer is too moist it will just slide off. Dryer concealers will stay put. (more…)
