Review: e.l.f’s Makeup Mist & Set Spray

Quite a few of you have asked I was getting on the e.l.f Makeup Mist & Set. I decided to put together a little review post!

First to the product claims (from e.l.f website)

Keep your makeup in place all day with a radiance boosting invisible hold. The invigorating mist moisturizes and soothes the skin with key ingredients Aloe, Green Tea, Cucumber and Vitamins A, C & E. The lightweight, comfortable and alcohol free formula improves makeup wearability and prevents color from running or fading. Spray on after makeup application to set makeup in place or during the day for a quick touchup to refresh.”

The first question many of you might ask is is it a dupe for MAC Fix+. It is a similar type of product with the same objectives but it doesn’t perform to quite the same standard.

Another thing to note is that it is mildly scented. It’s fresh and cucumbery, which isn’t for everyone.

You get 60ml in the bottle which isn’t a huge amount of product but then again it’s extremely affordable (€5 / £3.50 / $3)

After you apply your make-up apply one spray to set your make-up. Spray the mist from 12-16 inches from your face. I find  one mist covers my make-up. Let it dry naturally, it dries very quickly anyway. If you need it to dry instantly you could blot your face a little. You can also use it during the day to touch up or on bare skin as a bit of a re-freshener.
I sprayed one application over my make-up yesterday morning and then went about my day. By lunchtime I headed to the bathroom to check the results. My powder was still fresh but starting to oil up around my nose, as it always does. My eyeshadow was still intact and still as vibrant as earlier that morning  (I also used a primer as always). All in all, it’s a good product. It didn’t perform any miracles so don’t expect it to stop your oily skin getting oily or your dry skin getting dry but it did keep by make-up fresher.

Ingredients: (Aloe and Cucumber sound lovely but I’m not so sure about the last few!)

Water (Aqua), AMP-Acrylates/Allyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Green Tea (Camelia Sinensis) Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vc), Tocophryl Acetate (Ve) Retinyl Acytate (Va), Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben.

Good buy?
This would be a good buy for someone who is looking to try a spray for refreshing the skin and setting make-up for the first time. It would also be good for students who are trying to build a little make-up collection but don’t want to spend a lot of money.

Do you use sprays to set your make-up?
