Oskia The Nutritional Skincare Angle

I have been keeping beauty secrets! I think it’s clear I love a bit of skincare but I don’t know if you guys know how interested I am in holistic nutrition. It has been something I have been reading up on for years and a big part of my life. So I was really excited when I heard about OSKIA skincare arrival to our shores. If you haven’t heard of the brand they create nutritional skincare, that has been proven to work. I have fallen hard. Continue Reading

Treatment Review | VIORA REACTION Skin Tightening, Cellulite & Stretcmarks

Over the past year or so I have been starting to think about anti-ageing products and treatments. I want to preserve what I have for as long as possible, don’t we all. I was invited to Renaissance Laser & Skin Clinic  to try their new Viora Reaction treatment.

Reaction

How it works

Viora delivers radio frequency energy to the underlying layers of the skin. As we age collagen fibres weaken; everything from sun exposure to smoking and stress has a damaging affect. Viora stimulates the production of collage and elastin but protects the surface of the skin, this means to redness, rashes or peeling. Continue Reading

The Best Hand Creams

IMG_5857

IMG_5859

It’s that time of year again. Our once smooth, soft hands start to transform into something much more sinister. For me it’s central heating, far too much hand washing and running outdoors that lead to that horrible crispy feeling so I like to take precautions.

There are a tonne of hand creams on the shelves, some cheap as chips, other stretching the budget a little. To save you time I have been dabbling with a selection over the past few months. Let me say that I always have a tube of Vaseline Intensive Care Hand Lotion in my drawer but it’s not a great moisturiser or protector. I actually use it on my cuticles so I didn’t include it here.

1.  Image Ageless Total Rejuvenating Hand Creme SPF 15

This is the best of the best in my book, I wouldn’t be without it. It diminishes age spots with a blend of natural skin lightening agents. It also builds up collagen making the skin look plumper and younger. This cream contains UVA/UVB broad spectrum sun protection which a good all rounder needs to prevent age spots on the hands from sunlight. It smells like lemons which is unusual but refreshing none the less. Co-enzyme Q10 is on the list of ingredients which fight free radicals and help prevent environmental damage.

The tube is 2fl oz / 56.7ml which is a decent size but not too much to lob in your handbag. It’s very moistursing and yet isn’t greasy – greasy hand lotion means greasy skin and hair at the end of the day! The best thing about this product is that it’s by Image so I trust that it will work. Money well spent in my opinion. A lady I know said this cream worked magic on her “witch like hands”, her words not mine :). If your hands are in serious need of rejuvenation than this might be worth the spend. This beauty costs €38 which is steep but it’s a cosmeceutical product with SPF. This gear works!

2. Yon-Ka Nutri-Protect Repairing Comforting Hand Cream Yon-Ka is a another brand you can rely on but how does their hand cream measure up? This product is pure luxury. It smells absolutely gorgeous although I can’t put my finger on the scent. Like all Yonka product it smells of botanicals but in this instance it’s more fruity and light. It’s rich and nourishing and is a real treat on your cuticles. However it doesn’t contain SPF which means it’s no good as a day-time option for me. This is a night-time treat. The tube contains 1.73fl oz / 50ml which makes it slightly smaller than the Image one. It costs €29.50 but contains advanced anti-ageing properties.

3. Dr.Ceuticals Super Repair Hand Cream This is fast absorbing cream that also contains Q10, hydrating glycerin and a pro-collagen peptide which all help to keep the skin moisturised and youthful. The scent is subtle, fresh and pretty. It doesn’t smell as good as the Yonka or Image one, it reminds me of a Nivea smell, which is very nice. It’s light, non-greasy and really does absorb quickly. This one is a repair cream as it says on the tube, so no SPF for day use. The tube contains 75ml/2.5fl oz. Dr Ceutical products are available from Boots and from DrCeuticals.co.uk €13.99 / £9.99.

IMG_5863Dr.Ceuticals Hand De-Age Cream SPF 15 I have spoken about this one before but it was worth adding into the post. This cream is designed to brighten dark spots, smooth and hydrate the skin whilst protecting it from sun damage. Their Super Repair cream has a nicer scent, this one smells fresh like all of the other Dr Ceuticals skin products.

You may be wondering why I compare scent when I’m reviewing hand creams. Well for me scent it important. If I am going to be applying a cream throughout the day on an exposed part of my body it should smell nice!

I love hand products. Everyone uses them so they make a nice token gift too. I’m thinking of Christmas here. Have it gift wrapped with a pretty ribbon and voila, a useful present which would be appreciated by most.

Hand De-Age Cream by Dr Ceuticals

hand2

I was very impressed with Dr Ceuticals Tone & Tan so I was delighted when a sample of their Hand De-Age Cream SPF15 arrived at my door. I always use hand cream but to be honest I never really think of SPF. I’ve always been more focused on keeping them soft but now that I’m getting on in years (hee hee) I should probably protect my hands from damage. After all, hands are a dead giveaway Continue Reading

Addicted to Double Cleansing!

ub

According to Una Brennan, infamous facialist, deep cleansing is the foundation of good skin. However the double cleansing method is the cornerstone of the perfect skin care regime – promoting healthy, balanced and properly cleansed skin.I’ll be honest, for me cleansing has mostly been about taking make-up off.  In the last year or so I have developed a new obsession with cleansing Continue Reading

Human+Kind Review: All-in-one Anti-Ageing Cream

Being an advocate of natural skincare I have certainly worked my way through a hefty number of natural moisturisers. It was time to try a new one.

Enter All-in-one Anti-Ageing Cream by Human+Kind.

This cream is designed for women who lack the time for lengthy beauty rituals. It is a multifunctional product designed to work as:

  • an anti-ageing cream
  • an eye cream
  • a protective moisturiser
  • a night cream

It evens out skin tone reduces fine lines and wrinkles, softens the skin and reduces the appearance of age spots. The cream is packed with concentrated active natural ingredients which are designed to heal and rejuvinate. It contains jojoba oil, marshmallow, onopordum, centella, rosehip oil and shea butter. It also contains achmella oleracea, which is apparently known as nature’s botox.

Results?

I have been using this cream for ten days. I’m quite impressed. Not only is this a great all rounder it also helped even my skin tone. It didn’t break me out but left my skin soft and moisturised. This one is definitely for normal to dry skin types. If you’re oily I recommended stearing clear of creams and looking at lotions, gels or serums instead.

It costs €29.95 which is a fair price for a product that contains so many good ingredients. It’s always cheaper to buy creams laden with lab made chemicals as those ingredients are often cheap. If you’re a fan of natural skincare this one is definitely worth a look.

You can find Human + Kind products in health stores and pharmacies or at humanandkind.com.

Argan Skin Care AR457

When I heard that Kylie Minogue and make-up artist Karen Adler were raving about Argan457 Metaserum I needed to check them out. For those of you who haven’t heard of the brand basically it’s all about top notch Argan oil products.

I have been using the Long Lasting Eye Contour and Elixir Metaserum. The Elixir Metaserum is designed to correct extreme dryness by moisturizing deeply and protecting the skin from free radicals. It also has anti-ageing, restructuring and rejuvenating effects whilst giving firmness and elasticity back to the skin. It also contains something called Delta 7 sterols (phytosterol) which inhibit the factors that cause skin problems such as acnea and hyperseborhea. The Eye Contour gradually rejuvenates the area around the eyes whilst stimulating and revitalising the skin.

A note on packaging, it’s fantastic. I don’t know what it is about products in test-tube like vials, they make me feel like they could work wonders. One pump of the eye cream was plenty but I needed two pumps of the Metaserum to cover my face and neck. Although it’s an oil it absorbed into my skin quite quickly so I needed to work fast to spread it.

The eye cream doesn’t feel oily at all. It didn’t irritate my eyes or skin. Some eye creams block my pores and make my eyes sting so this was a delight to use. I definitely look more rested.

The Metaserum is beautiful. It feels so luxurious on the skin and contains rare, highly concentrated active ingredients. It’s worth noting that because this is an oil based product, it is a little well, oily. That being said oil based products can work on normal to oily skins too. I have an oily t-zone and have had no problems with breakouts. In fact I haven’t had so much as a blemish since I started using it. Don’t ask me how but the pores on my nose are significantly smaller.

A 20 day course is recommended, applying morning and at night to experience optimum results and recreate the skin’s  equilibrium. It’s a good job because the price will bring tears to your eyes – €76 for the Eye Contour and €88 for the Elixir. It at least lessens the sting when they recommend a 20 day course rather than permanent everyday use. I’d need to re-mortgage the house if it was a monthly purchase. For now I would repurchase the Eixir having seen the effects on my skin and use it for the required time and then go back to my ordinary skin care until it was necessary again. The eye cream is also fab. I spend so much money on high-end creams and I have rarely found one that has shown any improvement. This one works for me.

I was also sent a few samples of the mask and scrub. I gave myself a little DIY facial last night to test them out. My skin looks great today – pores are clear, clarity improved, dead skin removed and I look fresh (well needed this morning). I may invest in these in the future. I’ll have to start a little money box!

The best anti-ageing treatment ever!

I have found the best anti-ageing treatment ever! Tall order, I know. I recently popped into Akina Beauty for an Image 4-Layer Facial.

I was greeted by the lovely Evelyn who took me through the treatment.  It consisted of mild acid peels (more information below) which are applied 4 times during the treatment. It promises to change the image of your skin in one treatment using Vitamin C, glycolic acid and gentle but highly active enzymes to speed up cellular turnover and brighten, tighten and lighten your skin.

This really isn’t like any usual facial. Evelyn wore gloves (to protect her hands from the acid) which initially reminded me of being at the dentist. I quickly learned that this treatment is about results so at that point I forgot about the gloves and looked forward to glowing skin.

At every stage of the treatment Evelyn made sure that I wasn’t feeling any discomfort. I felt nothing (classic beauty bloggers skin!). Although most people feel a mild tingling but nothing painful. I was assured that the results are worth any tingling sensations.

Despite the treatment being results orientated, the experience itself was relaxing. Upon leaving the salon I was given some maintenance advice. I was delighted to discover that Akina sell sample sizes of Image skin care products before committing to the full size products. The full size products range from €30 – €100, not too bad for such high standard products- not comparable to beauty ranges sold at beauty counters. I picked up the Ageless Max Cream and Total Resurfacing Mask, reviews to follow.

So, the results?

One word. Phenomenal. For the first day or two my skin looked nice and clear and felt softer but the real results were yet to be seen. My skin flaked a tiny amount for a few  days and by day 6 my skin felt and looked noticeably different. The scarring on my chin was reduced, the very fine lines at the sides of my eyes lessened, clarity was improved ten fold. The best way I can explain it is that my skin sat better on my bone structure. The best part was the amazing glow. 10 days on and my skin still looks great.

I have been quite regimented in my after-care, using spf and maintaining my skin with the Image Max Creme.

I will definitely be returning for another treatment. I may make it a seasonal thing. I’ve never had skin this good. Make-up sits so much better too, always a good thing. Well worth the €130!
