You probably know by now that I’m a big fan of NYC. Cheap and cheerful, yes but besides that many of their products do the job well. I particularly like their nail polishes but have had some good experiences with their lipsticks and eyeshadows. They have a Read more…

I’m all about Spring makeup this week, I blame it on the brighter evenings. Isa Dora has some pretty offerings this season. Read more…

We all love cheap and cheerful now and again. Essence and Catrice are two brands I reach for when I fancy a pharmacy/drugstore spree. I have a few items to show you from Essence’s Vintage District collection. Read more…

I wasn’t not entirely sure how I feel about lipstains before. The idea of long-lasting lip products never really appealed to me, I’m too fickle for long-lasting. I have gradually come round to the idea and have been experimenting :) Read more…
I have been dabbling with IsaDora’s new “WILD WEST” bronzing collection for the past two months and realised this morning that I never shared it with you! Sin, I know. Read more…
It’s a scorcher of a day here in the Canaries. Too hot for lounging about getting over-heated so I decided to take myself to a local air conditioned cafe for a spot of blogging. There are a few products I want to talk about this week but the first lot that popped into my mind are the City Mono Eyeshadow from N.Y.C. – New York Color Cosmetics.
I have been trying out four shades over the past few weeks… Read more…
I have been playing around with NYC products a lot over the past couple of weeks. I’m generally quite impressed with the products they offer, a few hit and misses like most brands. NYC products are very cheap, yet some of their products are of very good quality. I particularly like their eyeshadows which I recently talked about in my May Favourites video. Drugstore eyeshadows are generally pretty awful but the pigmentation and finish of the NYC shadows I have tried have been brilliant.
This week I have been experimenting with two of their eyeliners and one of their mascaras.
NYC Sky Rise Mascara
This is for a very natural eyelash look. Now I love me a bit of lash volume, in fact, I need it. So this didn’t quite cut it but if you were looking for a natural lash with subtle definition than this is nice. The wand places a thin coat of product on the lashes. There were no clumps and my lashes did look longer, just not volumised (which isn’t the point of the product anyway Amy!). This is a good option for school.
NYC High Definition Liquid Eyeliner
This is the best of the bunch! It’s extremely easy to use, fool proof actually. It’s precise and there is no mess. It also lasted well during the day. The three swatches above were with different amounts of pressure. Here is how it looks on (roughly applied)…
NYC Liquid Eyeliner
This is the dud in the group for me I’m afraid. The product itself is pigmented and has fairly decent colour pay off. The problem is the brush. It spread when tried to apply it rather than giving a fine tip brush effect. I prefer the High Definition liner by far. That being said I’m might try this again with my own brush.
Any thoughts on NYC products?
Max Factor is a brand have dipped into on occasion but have limited experience with. I love their mascaras – 2000 Calorie was a favourite of mine for a long time. I also once had a brief fling with one of their foundations – I remember recording a foundation tutorial with it way back when.
I am happy to be able to explore the bounties of this brand a little more.
24 from False Lash Effect Mascara – This mascara has a built-in primer that wraps lashes. Max Factor is a sister company of the US brand Covergirl – hence the latters infamous Lashblast being the same as the formers False Lash Effect Mascara. I have always been a fan od Max Factors mascara and I’m sure this one will be no different!
I have two of Revlons Flipstick Colour Effects Lipsticks – Bloomy Pink and Salsa Red. They are lip duos. The colours can be worn alone, blended together or used on different parts of the lips – to highlight the plumpness for example. (€11.99) “An innovative double-ended lipstick you mix, match and personalise your own lip colour”.
I have never tried Max Factors nail polishes either so I shall have some fun swatching these.
Right, I’m off to start swatching and testing!
Thoughts on Max Factor??
