Fragrance Review – The Body Shops New White Musk Libertine

On the 30th anniversary of White Musk, The Body Shop launched White Musk Libertine. It is a more floral, mature take on the original.

I would describe it as floral and feminine musk. It’s quite powdery and much more sophisticated than any Body Shop fragrance I’ve tested. For those of you with a sharper nose, and better descriptive skills, White Musk Libertine was developed by perfumer Vincent Schäller; notes include  Turkish delight, Chantilly cream, orchid and signature musk. It doesn’t remind of the original at all. Which is probably a good thing – I don’t need any reminders of my teenage years.

Although it’s soft enough to be worn during the day, I would feel more comfortable wearing this one at night – I always feel that way about powdery fragrances.

I have the eau de toilette version which is softer but as you would expect, it doesn’t last an eternity. That’s normal. All in all, it’s a lovely soft, chic scent. Much more grown up that the original White Musk!

White Musk Libertine costs from €14.

Lancôme’s Trio of O’s

This one if for you perfume addicts!

Lancôme’s Trio of O’s, three light, fresh fragrances that transport you to the sunshine and warmth of the French Riviera.

Ô DE LANCÔME

Ô de Lancôme has been around since 1969. It’s described as light and crisp, sexy and spirited and a thousand drops of freshness in a bottle. To my unsophisticated nose this is a predominantly citrus scent with floral notes and a hint of sandalwood. This one is a little too traditional and mature for me.

Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin
Heart Notes: Basil, Rosemary, Coriander, Jasmine, Honeysuckle
Base Notes: Oakmoss, Vetiver, Patchouli

Ô D’AZUR

O d’Azur is a floral, Summer scent reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Its rose centre pays homage to Lancôme’s heritage whilst Ô de Lancôme’s inimitable citrus notes are revived with Calabrian Lemon Essence.

Top Notes: Calabrian Lemon Essence, Lychee, Galbanum, Bergamot
Heart Notes: Turkish Damask Rose, Peony, Ecuadorian Pink Pepper
Base Notes: Woody musk

Ô DE L’ORANGERIE

This is the latest Ô fragrance. It’s described as a light zesty orange blossom fragrance rounded off by the softness of jasmine petals with vibrant woody accents which heightens the senses. Fresh and velvety, yet intense and delicate, the orange blossom emerges mysteriously.

Top Notes:  Orange Zest, Orange Blossom Essential Oil
Heart Notes:  Orange Blossom Absolu, Jasmine
Base Notes:  Cedar, Benzoin

Each bottle costs €35.00 for 75ml.

Gorilla Fragrances at Lush – Imogen Rose, Orange Blossom, Tuca Tuca, Breath of God, The Smell of Freedom

You know how much I love perfume, I think my Perfume Collection video may have hammered that home. Well, I got my little perfume addicted hands on some of the Gorilla fragrances for Lush. My understanding is that if you love the scent of Lush products than you will like some of these. At this stage I have yet to try any of them but I will keep you updated on my thoughts.

Imogen Rose, The smell of Freedom, Orange Blossom, Tuca Tuca, Breath of God

Gorilla Perfume was formed to showcase the perfumery of Mark and Simon Constantine as an antidote to boring mass-market scents and a movement to get people excited about good quality perfume“.

The five I have are Imogen Rose, The smell of Freedom, Orange Blossom, Tuca Tuca and Breath of God. If you have tried any of these please let me know your thoughts on them.

Imogen Rose – Gorilla Perfume calls it “a true representation of the Damask rose with a hint of baby powder”. It’s notes are rose, bergamot, vetivert, ambrette seed, tonka, and orris. A reviewer referred to the dry down as drowsy and dreamy… can’t wait to try it!

Imogen Rose

Breath of God – Breath of God was reportedly developed after Constantine created two separate scents, Inhale for women (uplifting neroli, refreshing bergamot, stimulating violet leaf and exotic jasmine) and Exhale for men (warming amber, soothing sandalwood and stimulating patchouli ). He then decided to combine them. The notes are neroli, lemon, melon, jasmine, rose, vetivert, sandalwood, cedarwood, amber and musk.

Breath of God

Orange Blossom – Fresh orange blossom absolute and neroli oil burst out of the bottle like a distilled Mediterranean moment. Over time, the honeyed and woody tones develop on your skin and you’re left with a warm glow. Featuring orange blossom, neroli, rosewood, ylang ylang, sandalwood and beeswax. I hear that if you like the retro Happy bath bar then this is for you.

Orange Blossom

Tuca Tuca – ‘Like any good summer day, Tuca Tuca starts with a blast of fresh summer air, violet top notes accompany a rich floral feel from cassie absolute. As the sun reaches midday the warm vanilla and ylang ylang move the perfume into its middle notes and then, as the sun sets, we’re left with a slightly naughty violet leaf and vetivert bottom, the end to a perfect day!’ This is one of my favourite perfume descriptions, I want that day! :) Now,  off to test Tuca Tuca to see if it lives up tot he hype.

Tuca Tuca

The Smell of Freedom - The Smell of Freedom opens with a fresh, herbal accord and reveals its complex, spicy and woody nature as it warms on your skin. It’s a masterpiece.” The notes include lemongrass, lemon myrtle, neroli, jasmine, ginger, fire tree, clove, black pepper, sandalwood, oudh and orris.

The Smell of Freedom

Perfume bottle (30g) – €24.00
Atomiser (10g) – €11.00
Solid Perfume (12g) – €6.00

Have you tried any of Lush’s frangrances? What’s  your favourite scent at the moment?

I bought myself a new perfume..

‘Next’ is not a shop I frequent but I was on the hunt for a gift this weekend. I was pretty glad that I decided to pop in. They had their fragrances on sale, left over from Christmas I presume. I didn’t find a gift in there but I did buy myself a new perfume :)

I sampled them all and settled on ‘Pure’.

What drew me to this scent is that it is fresh and clean. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but if you enjoy clean fragrances you will probably appreciate this one. It also wears surprisingly well.

It reminds me of fresh laundry blowing in the breeze. This is definitely a day time scent. I would put it in the same family as Banana Republic Classic and Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue. The former being spicier, the latter being sweeter.

I predict that this will be a favourite of mine this Summer.

The best part is that I only paid €7.50 for my bottle, a bargain. There were a few others I really liked too, I might consider them in the future.

Any recommendations?

My Love for Victoria’s Secret Spritzers…

I have built up a little collection of Victoria Secret body sprays over the past few years. Most mornings I open my closet and stare at a shelf of perfumes, make my selection based on my mood, outfit and plans for the day. But some days I can’t face perfume, I don’t entirely know why this is but sometimes they are too much first thing in the morning. On those days I select a VS spritzer. That way I still smell pretty but it’s a light scent.

I thought I would show you the ones I have and a little about them and I was hoping you would have some Victoria Secret recommendations for me :)

Here is the lot….

First,the Secret Garden sprays…

Victoria’s Secret Love Spell, Pure Seduction, Amber Romance, Secret Charm

These are fruity and sweet and a pleasure to use. I also have a pear scented one but I can’t stand the smell of it was excluded from the photograph. Aw, poor pear! My favourite is Love Spell. I liked it so much that I bought the shampoo and conditioner with the same scent so now my hair smells the same…it’s the little things.

I occasionally spray these on my duvet before I get into bed at night. Not for any reason other than I like to smell nice things whilst drifting off to the land of nod. Amber Romance is the one I least like out of these four, it reminds me a little of toilet freshener (just a hint of toilet freshener!).

And my absolute favourites, the PINK With a Splash line…

Victoria Secret PINK With a Splash – Soft & Dreamy, Soft & Pure, Fresh & Clean

These are absolutely DIVINE! I can’t decide which one I like best. They’re completely different and are suitable for different seasons and different times of the day.

Soft & Dreamy reminds me of cosying up beside the fire in Chigaco surrounded my shopping bags, eating gingerbread and sipping hot chocolate. Fresh & Clean reminds me of Summer dresses and freshly laundered clothes whilst Soft & Pure is a great every day scent – I have yet to assign a memory to this one :)

I was having a look at the Victoria’s Secret Website and it appears that I am missing a few from the collection. Oh dear, now we can’t have that can we! *scribbles on wishlist*.

Have you any Victoria Secret recommendations? Make-up, beauty, fragrance?

My Perfume Order finally arrived!! – Banana Republic Classic Edt

My FragranceX order finally arrived. I could launch right into a moan session but more of that later. The fragrance I was waiting on was Banana Republic Classic.
One word – j’adore!
This is predominantly a clean, fresh and light scent with citrus top notes. I have heard others say that it reminds them of freshly laundered clothes and a crisp breeze. It has respectable longevity, not amazing, but acceptable for an eau de toilette.
This is a real all-American fragrance  – it takes me right back to sipping coffee on Michigan Avenue and watching the world go by.
The drydown is a little masculine – green with sandalwood, which I happen to love. Then again, I have been know to dabble in men’s fragrances – Diesel For Men makes a sexy perfume, ladies often ask me what perfume I’m wearing. It has just a hint of masculineness.
When describing fragrance I find clothing comparisons useful :) If this perfume were an item of clothing it would be a classic mac. Simple, chic and can be worn anywhere.
I ordered my bottle from FragranceX for under $15 for 30ml. House of Fraser in Belfast wanted £40 for the same bottle.
Robbery I tell you!
Anyway, I can’t really recommend FragranceX since they took 7 weeks to deliver the perfume. It was cheap, but it came at a price. I would be a little hesitant to order from the again. When I tweeted after six weeks to say that I had not received my order, so many  people responded with similar complaints. A few claimed never to have received their order at all.
In fairness to them they are quite transparent about this. I knew when I ordered that my order would be shipped via unregistered post, but seven weeks from the US to Ireland? Come on!
I’m in love!

Thierry Mugler Womanity – Not for this Woman!

It’s been a while since I had a perfume related rant. I do love perfume, a ridiculous amount. I sense you know where this is going. Yes, I bought myself a bottle of Thierry Mugler Womanity. I’m a little deflated so it’s time to share with the group!

No matter where I took the picture the light reflected off the bottle and one couldn’t see it’s true wonder. So I settled for an image from their website, for the sake of accuracy.

thierry mugler womanity

Like all Mugler fragrances the bottle is a statement to say the least.

I would consider myself a Thierry Mugler fragrance fan, yet I only had one in my collection – Alien. The reason for my love for this brand is 1. The individuality of the fragrances 2. the longevity and 3. the packaging. I also like that they don’t flood the market with regular releases. Mugler seems focused on creating signature statement scents rather than fluffy fillers.

I was  never a fan of Angel, yet I appreciate the complexity of the fragrance and it’s individuality. So I was very excited when I heard about the release of Womanity.

I made a very stupid mistake. I bought this online without testing. Eejit I hear you shout, yes, I know!

When the package arrived the bottle looked fantastic and of course the pink was an attraction. That was the best of it for me I’m afraid.

Mugler states on his website that with this scent he was seeking to “compose a rhythmic play between sweet and savory”. Sorry? Yeah, I’m lost too.

Womanity starts with a load, heady citrus punch. That sounds delicious but it’s actually quite  flat. No sparkling lemonade here. When the citrus subsides there is a pink floral layer followed by a leathery, salty scent (which is apparently cavier inspired)  but it’s not aquatic or refreshing in any way. It’s heavy pinkness is really not for me and I would be very surprised if Womanity gets the same reception as Angel or Alien. I suppose they are a tough act to follow.

The bottom line is that it’s nothing new, even to my uneducated nose. Womanity doesn’t have the uniqueness and strength of character as it’s predecessors. It will probably still be a hit, it is Mugler after all.

It’s a bit of an expensive mistake but gladly I have a friend who will gladly adopt and love it since I clearly cannot.

What are your thoughts on Mugler perfumes? What is your favourite perfume at the moment?

The perfect Summer scent for me – Roger & Gallet Rose

It’s hard to find a fragrance that is suitable for the hot summer days. I find that the summer versions of out favourite fragrances are sometimes still a little heavy for me this time of year.

Who am I kidding? It’s an excuse to satisfy my perfume addiction.

Anyways, this month’s favourite is Roger & Gallet Rose Eau douce parfumee.

I’m not a huge fan of rose scented products, they can be a little grandma-ish but I do enjoy the scent when it’s blended with others. This is the latter.

It smells fresh, contemporary and pretty rather than rose-y. To my unsophisticated nose it’s Read more…
