Video Time! Faking a Natural Dewy Glow

I promised a video on my favourite products for faking a glow. I have tried so many over the past few years but there are only a few products that stood out to me. I also included a little demo on how I apply the products for that ‘lit from within’ look. Hope you enjoy!

Products I mentioned:

  • Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow Enhancer Iced Gold (I bought it from for €20.30)
  • MAC Perfect Topping MSF
  • MAC Cream Color Base in Shell (Pearl for lighter skin) (€19)
  • St Tropez Illuminator Rose
  • The Body Shop Illuminator
  • Prestige Sun Baked Minerals (€12.99)
  • Make Up For Ever Uplight (€31.50)

Put to the Test – Olay 7 Effects Wake Up Wonder

I was perusing the Olay section in my local Boots  a while back and I was approached by a lovely sales lady who tried to coerce me into buying the new Olay 7 Effects Sensitive SPF15. I politely listened to the sales pitch and allowed her to demonstrate the smoothness of said magical product on the back of my hand. I then pointed to the oily mess that has become my chin and asked how well it would work for me. I was swiftly ushered to a counter that housed Olay 7 Effects Wake Up Wonder. Apparently this is the product for those of us with combination skin. It was reduced to €10 (from €16 I think) so I tossed a box in my already bulging shopping basket while my Mum bought herself the sensitive product.

According to the box Wake Up Wonder works in the following ways:

  1. Line minimisation: Helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Hydration: For a health radiant glow.
  3. Firming: Hydrates for firmer skin appearance.
  4. Dullness: Improves skin surface dullness.
  5. Exfoliation: Smoothes and evens skin texture.
  6. Pore appearance: Helps minimise the appearance of pores.
  7. Antioxidant: Helps to prevent free radical damage to skin’s surface layers.

Does it work?

That’s a bit of a tall order but for the most part, it works. It most definitely makes fine lines look less, even if it is just an illusion. I wonder if it would do anything for wrinkles though, since they’re deeper than lines and harder to disguise – I’m not in a position to test that one out yet :) Hydration wise, my skin stayed moisturised all day without any richness or heaviness. My dry bits didn’t look chapped as the day went on and my oily bits weren’t out of control. My skin did also feel a little firmer, but nothing to write home about – bear in mind that I’m still in my 20’s. I would say I saw the most improvement in dullness. Pregnancy hormones have left me with a beautiful ashen complexion and Wake Up Wonder seriously helps in this department. It gives the skin a soft focus glow that counteracts knackered grey looking skin (video coming on this soon). My skin also felt really smooth after 2 weeks of use and the  soft-focus glow I mentioned does seem to make pores less noticeable – again, an illusion, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s altering your skin somehow. I should also point out that this hasn’t caused a breakout either. ( I have been using my usual spot fighting arsenal too).

Would I buy again?

Yes. It’s by no means a life changer but it works for my skin type and it’s affordable. ‘Nuff said :)

A note on Olay 7 Effects Sensitive SPF15 – My mum loves it. She finds it moisturising and calming on her skin. She’s quite dry so uses this in the morning and a rich cream at night. She said she would definitely re-purchase.

Have you tried any of these?

Eyeko Cream – Extra Glow (LE)

I have heard so many YouTube guru’s rave about the Eyeko Cream. I always meant to try it but it wasn’t stocked in my local Superdrug. As you know, if something is out of stock/unavailable I must have it.

Ridiculous but true.

Imagine my surprise when the postman delivered a package from Eyeko this morning. Inside was a tub of their limited edition Cream Extra Glow.

It smells a little plastic-y on first contact with the skin but after a few minutes it’s just a delicate scent.

The colour is a soft frosty pink which looks pretty on the skin. I will be wearing it later today so I will post a Face of the Day and photos this evening.

The cream also claims to be a moisturiser and an eye cream. I’ll have to get back to you.

I haven’t tried the basic cream so I’m afraid I can’t offer anything by means of a comparison.

What are your thoughts on glow creams?

Body Shop Haul

There was a product launch event on in The Body Shop on Thursday. There was 20% off everthing for people who had BS cards so how could I resist :)

The Body Shop have also lowered their prices, Finally. Way too over priced. The last time I mentioned them on YouTube I had quite a few comments from people saying that they had been bought out by a big cosmetics company and that this company tested on animals. I looked into this before returning and found that they have been taken over but that their fair trade/animal protection policies still stand!

Vanilla and  Nutmeg Body Butter. This is from their festive collection. It has a soft subtle scent, unlike the Papaya one that nearly made me sick!

I decided to try a perfume oil in coconut. It’s quite soft and pretty, not overpowering at all. I added some into a plain moisturiser the other day and it was gorgeous.

I also picked up this Tinted Glow Enhancer 02, which I am loving! It gives a soft glow without shimmer or shine.

I have worn it on its own and under foundation. Here’s a swatch…

I also got a free clutch, which I’m loving!

I never really liked The Body Shop but I’m happy with my purchases :)
