Loving NYX Lipglosses

You all know how much of a lip gloss junkie I am. But I am by no means a lipgloss snob, I have a mix of high end and budget friendly tubes in my collection – I enjoy them all.

I’ve been enjoying NYX lip glosses for the past few weeks. They’re cheap and pretty.

Whipped, Kiss, Pink, Baby Pink

And some swatches…

Whipped, Kiss, Pink, Baby Pink

All in all, I like the NYX lip glosses that I have tried. Bear in mind that they’re sheer rather than creamy consistency, although not as sheer as I expected. They aren’t sticky either, of course that means they don’t last very long on the lips. No matter how much I spend on a lip gloss I tend to reapply it regularly anyway.

I have been wearing Pink over MAC’s Creme de Nude lipstick all week. It’s quite a bright gloss, much  more pigmented than you would expect. I also like wearing Baby Pink over lipsticks. It’s very pretty over Creme Cup and Angel.

I got my glosses from Beauty Fragrances, it’s a British site but they ship to Ireland.

What are your thoughts on NYX’s lipglosses? Have you a favourite?

Bargain Find #1 – the €1 Dazzleglass

I have come across two great finds this week. Thought I’d share!

Find #1

I picked up a very cheap gloss today that reminded me of a MAC Dazzleglass. This rather surprising find came from Penneys / Primark.

It’s called Gilt and it’s a shimmery, sheer gloss with gold iridescent particles. Sounds gaudy right! When I swatched the gloss on my hand it looked very pretty. I have layered it on quite thick for the swatch. It’s not something I would wear all over my lips but rather useful for a dab of poutiness in the centre of my lips.

It  also reminded me of MAC’s Dazzleglass in Goldie Rocks. Then I saw the €1 price tag. Yes please, I’ll have two thank you very much. I think they are usually €3 but are reduced at the moment, they may be Christmas stock so get in there quick if you’re interested. I should point out that this is by no means a dupe for goldie rocks but it does have a very similar effect on the lips – that works for me!

I have tried glosses from Penneys before and have completely unimpressed, this one is a different formulation and finish to the ones I have tried before.

It smells and tastes like a stick of rock (the edible kind!). It also tingles like a lip plumper but doesn’t sting.

If you like shimmer free glosses then you should definitely pass on this one. But if like me you are a fan of MAC’s Dazzleglasses or you would like to try one but can’t part with the cash, then this gloss may be for you!

I love a good make-up bargain. It reminded me of my over-reliance on Claire’s Accessory shimmer glosses in 2009; no matte how many fancy ones I bought I kept reaching with the peach and pink cheapies. They just did the job.

I’ll be back in a little while with my second find!

Have you come across any good finds in the sales?

Love for Lip Gloss

I’m in love… with lip gloss. I am a self confessed lip gloss addict, admittedly I have been enjoying lipstick quite a lot lately. I find it’s hard to find a gloss consistency that everyone likes. Personally I enjoy a slightly tacky gloss that isn’t too sheer or too sticky. Sticky is good for staying paying whilst sheer glosses look really pretty for about 2 minutes and then they’re gone.

Enter my new love…

The Body Shop Love Gloss (sounds way fancier in French ‘Gloss Coeur’ Ooh la la). I was expecting these to be sheer and pretty with little staying power, I’m not sure why. I am delighted to report that I was wrong. They smell divine, add subtle dimension to my lips and are slightly tacky so they have great staying power. I was wearing the clear pink on Easter Sunday and it was still on after dinner, impressive.

I knew I would love the peach and pink. I thought I was going to hate the  purpley looking one and the brown but they are very pretty on, take a look at some swatches:

Left to right: No 16 , No 15, No 17, No 02, No 01 (would love if they had names, that always makes products more memorable)

PIC_1227The best thing about these for me, other than staying power and scent, is the applicator. I know people are fussy about their applicator choice, some girls like brush tips, some doe foot. Once the colour is good, I’m, easy. I have never come across an applicator like this one though.

At first I though it was  going to be difficult to apply, it wasn’t. The little hole in the middle stopped mountains of product clinging to the applicator, that sometimes happens with my doe-foot glosses. The tip at the top is great for me as I like to bring a soft gloss right around the line of my cupids bow, this makes my lips look fuller.

No 15 is my favourite at the moment (closely followed by No 17). I have been wearing it over Victoria Secret Satin Sheets, Natural Collection Apple Blossom and MAC Shy Girl (pictured below).

Love Gloss gets my love!

What is your favourite gloss? Do you wear it alone or over a lipstick?
