Whenever I have a bad day I feel the urge to buy nail polish. Don’t ask why, I don’t , I just buy. Luckily I don’t often have a bad day but when I do I head to my favourite ebay store and peruse nail polishes. Then I check swatches online and create a shortlist. I love the entire, ridiculous process.
Last week I went for China Glaze Purple Panic and Pink Voltage. I usually but a few more but I managed to reign myself in :)
I think the neoness of the colours hints at the sort of mood I was in! Not traditional Winter shades but November is so dark and dreary that I could do with a little brightness. Is it just me?

I found BeautyZone2007 through Lollipop26 who often buys nail polishes from them. I have never had any problems – she offer combined shipping, nail polishes are much cheaper than here in Ireland, she has a huge range and I have never had any customs charges (I never order more than 6 at a time, usually four). Each bottle costs €2.34 and postage came to €5. Not bad for less than a tenner! It’s also a good way to buy shades that are from old collections.
I don’t have any neon shades in my collection so I look forward to trying these. Speaking of my collection, I feel like a nail polish clear out is in order. I have my favourites but there are so many more that have been used once or twice and flung in the box.
My favourite nail polish this month is without a doubt ‘Round my Finger’ by Catrice.
Round My Finger is a gorgeous Magenta shade. It reminds me a little of OPI’s Pompeii Purple (See here). Actually it’s a little more purple, but similar all the same.
You can’t go wrong for €3!
What’s your favourite at the moment?
I have been meaning to review Estée Lauder Pure Color Nail Polish in Mega Fuchsia for a few weeks now. The shade always draws my attention when I’m deciding on what colour to choose from my collection.
And a swatch…
Let me start by saying that I love the packaging. The cube shape makes a nice change. It is quite heavy though so it’s not one you would pop in your bag for touch ups.
Colour wise it’s well, fuchsia. It’s quite bright and cheery so I find I get quite a few comments on it when I wear it.
I’m on the fence about the finish. It dries with a satin shine rather than high shine so I would definitely apply a top coat to this one but that’s down to personal preference really.
The first coat goes on quite sheer and a little streaky but that is quickly remedied by the second and third coat. Three coats are necessary for full coverage.
Mega Fuchsia dries a little soft. It’s far from the diamond finish I have been attracted to lately. It also takes a little while to dry. I sat with my hands on my lap for about 20 minutes to make sure that final coat was fully dry. From previous experience if I moved around before this time I would smudge or dint the polish.
My mum has a serious addiction to fuchsia nail polish. She will love this one – although she did mention that she now has 7 bottles of similar nail polish all from different brands. I can’t make fun of her since I’m always drawn to taupe shades, regardless of the fact that there are quite a few of them in my press.
The bottom line on this one is that I love the colour but that I’m not mad about the finish and application. However, I am quite willing to overlook these issues for the cheeriness of the shade.
Have you tried Estée Lauder nail polishes?
I have had Eyeko Lilac Polish in my collection for a year now and I still love it as much as I did the day I first laid eyes on it. I am now on my fourth bottle.
I should really move on but I just can’t let go! Here’s a few swatches if you haven’t seen it yet…
What I love most about this polish, besides the pretiness of the colour, is the creaminess. It’s so easy to apply and I never make a mess (I’m dreadful at putting on nail polish, despite years of practice). I find myself reaching for it regularly, even in the ice and snow.
At least it’s Spring now and Lilac Polish looks more at home!
Is there a shade you can’t move on from?
Today’s nail polish of choice is e.l.f Party Purple. I had never tried e.l.f nail polishes and to be honest they are so cheap that I wasn’t expecting much. I’m pleasantly surprised!
Here is a little look at what it looks like on my nails. Please excuse the messy application :)
I applied two coats before I took the above photos. It went on easily without chunks or over-sheerness. the consistency is quite impressive, especially when you factor in the price.
It’s a rich deep purple with shimmery particles, which you can pretty much see for yourself.
This is an absolute bargain at €1.70 / £1.50 per bottle. I am eyeing up Metal Madness for a future purchase. It looks gorgeous!
What do you think? Have you tried elf polishes?
I’m in love with Kat Von D’s palette in Beethoven. I decided to do a little tutorial and review for anyone who is interested!
Thanks for watching! :)
Today I felt a little rebellious (this does not happen very often, maybe once a year!) so my makeup reflects this. Some days I use makeup to help me look my best, other days my makeup is an expression of how I’m feeling. The latter is the case today.
Some people might get rid of negative energy by doing a kick boxing class and knocking a punchbag to kingdom come. I’m not that girl (I wish I was!). Instead, in a rather self destructive pattern, I like to keep smiling and laughing when there is trouble brewing. Since I’m not overly fabulous at expressing my emotions verbally, they come out in other ways; a painting, writing, my makeup and outfit choices.
Today, I think my makeup says it all :)
- Parfait Amour – Inner 2/3’s of lid
- Smut – Crease
- Black Tied – Crease (to add depth)
- Beautymarked – outer third of eye lid
- Vanilla Pigment as highlight
- Carbon over fluidline
- Engraved liner on waterline
- Loreal Telscopic Mascara
I have become quite the nail polish addict lately. It could be just one of my phases but I’ve been changing my polish daily over the past few weeks.
Today’s choice is Revlon Purple Petal. I’ll show you the colour before I do a quick review..
I love the colour. It’s the perfect shade of purple for Winter. It brightens up my day!
The product itself is quite expensive for a drugstore polish (€9 in Ireland) but it is quite a large bottle. The consistency is great and it is very easy to apply without making too much of a mess. I applied two coats. It also dried quite quickly.
The downside is the chipping. This polish definitely needs a top coat. I’ve been using quite a lot of Rimmels long lastin polishes lately and haven’t needed to use a topcoat at all. Not so with the polish.
I love the colour range Revlon provides but as for the longetivity of the polishes, I don’t think so!
What is your favourite brand of nail polish?
I liked the look of the make-up sets by Front Cover but I was unsure about the quality and pigmentation. When I was in Boots the other day I decided to buy one of the small sets (I resisted the big pretty set!)I chose the Inky Eyes kit. It cost £12 from Boots in Belfast.
