Glitz & Glam… (swatches, pics, first impressions)

This was the third Christmas running that I meant to pick up Sephora’s Gllitz & Glam kit whilst in Chicago. The first year I forgot, the second year they were sold out but finally this Christmas I got my hands on one.

If you haven’t heard of this kit it’s basically Sephora’s best selling glitzy products. One look at all that shimmer and highlighting and I was sold!

What’s in the kit? It includes an array of  bronze shades and complexion-illuminating products. Not for lovers of matte skin.

  • 0.13 oz Benefit High Beam
  • 0.12 oz Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow in Pug (smoky pewter)
  • 0.02 oz Bare Escentuals bareMinerals All Over Color in Glee (soft mauve plum)
  • 0.07 oz Sephora Collection Eye Shadow in Starry Sky 07 (black with silver glitter)
  • 0.125 oz Sephora by OPI Nail Colour in Charge It! (opaque metallic 24k gold)
  • 0.24 oz Tarte Celebutante Dry Oil Shimmer (champagne)
  • 0.07 oz Josie Maran Argan Oil Illuminizer (light bronze)
  • 0.10 oz Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Gloss in Paiette (sheer light pink with iridescent shimmer)
  • 0.12 oz Ultraflesh Gold Standard Mascara in black
  • 0.08 oz Stila Lip Glaze in Vanilla (pearly nude)

I am thoroughly enjoying this set. As I said, not one for the matte lovers obviously. The stand-out products for me are the Buxom eyeshadow in Pug, Tarte Celebutante Dry Oil and the Josie Maran Argan Oil Illuminizer. I love Stila Lip Glazes and have quite a few in my collection but I will definitely use Vanilla. The Tarina gloss is so pretty but based on first impressions it reminds me of Victoria Secret Beauty Rush glosses (which I love so no harm). Although this is a sampler kit, there is plenty of product. I would imagine that I may not even get through some of these before the expire.

At $40 this is a complete steal. Don’t be mad that it’s not available in Ireland :) I had a few questions about the kit so I thought I would do this post despite it being a Christmas kit. I have also picked up sephora kits after Christmas on ebay – unwanted gifts I assume. This one is worth a look.

Bring on the disco ball!!

Make-up Pressies – My favourite kinda’ presents

My lovely friend, and fellow blogger, Lex sent me along a lovely pressie this week. Lex and I both started on YouTube around the same time and share similar interests and taste in make-up so I always know I’ll love what she recommends.

She sent me these three lovelies.

I have never tried Mary Kay products since they aren’t available here in Europe but I have heard good things about some of their cosmetics. I was excited when I saw this cream blush and highlighter – two of my make-up favourites.. a girl can never have too many cream blushes. Highlighters are a more recent addiction of mine, I blame YouTube.

Cream Highlighter  TX23

The cream blush looks insane but I promise you, it’s beautiful on! It’s called Cheek Glaze and it’s in the shade Mandarin. I’ll be back with a full review and swatches later this weekend. It gives a fresh, youthful glow.

Lex also knows my fondness for Sephora’s eye pencils and sent me this lovely mocha shade 502, which I smeared on the second I opened it. I really must learn to have patience. I would describe it as an iced mocha shade – I’ll follow up with swatches and some photos of how it looks on the eye.

On another note, I have really been loving eye pencils as eye bases lately. I can’t seem to get enough of them.

Thank you Lex! You have great taste :)

Have you tried Mary Kay products?

Sephora Nano Lip Liners – My thoughts

I have been meaning to pick up some of Sephora’s Nano Lip Liners since I read Lollipop26’s review. She loved the shade Native Nude (the name was enough to make me buy it).

When I was in Chicago I popped into Sephora – okay “popped” is not the right word, perused intensely is more appropriate – and tried out some of the liners on the back of my hand. I settled on Native Nude and Candid Candy.

I was initially taken aback back the size of these liners – they’re tiny. They are roughly half the size of an ordinary lip pencil. But at $5 each I probably shouldn’t complain.

Consistency wise, they aren’t overly soft and creamy but aren’t dry either, in my opinion they’re just right.

Here’s a little swatch…

Native Nude is my favourite – shocker. The colour is a beigey nude (comes off lighter on the lips than in the swatch) and although it has a brown base it’s doesn’t come off brown on the lips. It is the exact same colour as my lips, which is what I was after. When I apply it I layer it over most of my lip. It provides subtle definition and helps keep my lipstick and gloss on longer. What I like most about it is that it works with every single lipstick shade.

Native Nude

Candid Candy is exactly what it sounds like – a candy pink shade. It lasts quite well and works with all pink lipsticks and glosses. It even works well with some nude shades. It does have a lavender hint to it which may not work so well with medium to darker warm skin tones but it works a treat on my complexion (NC25).

Candid Candy

So all in all I love these. If only they were longer!

What is your favourite lip liner?

I have my eye on some Make-up Sets

You may or may not know, I’m heading to Chicago next month. Now, shopping will be minimal but I am planning some treats from Sephora.

Whilst in Sephora in The Water Tower last Christmas I was overwhelmed by the sampler and gift sets available. I settled on a fragrance sampler but stayed away from the make-up kits. This was mainly because my make-up list was the length of my arm. This year, there is nothing I need so I’ll be trying a sampler set or two.

Here are a few that I’m considering. Maybe you could help me decide!

Sephora Beauty in a Box – Nars Junkie $69 ($121 value)

  • Essential Eye Palette: Night Star, Galapagos, Nepal, Ondine, Thunderball, Unconditional Love
  • Ophelia Lip Gloss
  • Mini Multiple in Orgasm
  • Mini Bronzer in Laguna

Sephora Beauty in a Box: Sparkle til Dawn $36 ($77 value)

  • Eye Primer
  • Made in Manhattan eyeshadow
  • Nano Eyeliner in Glitter Black
  • Glitter in eyeliner in Gold & Silver
  • Lash Plumper in Ultra Black
  • Nectar Shine Lip Gloss in Coconut

Sephora Favourites Glitz & Glam (minis) $39  ($121 value)

  • Lorac Perfectly Lit in Spotlight
  • Josie Maran Bronzing Argan Oil
  • Tate Lock n Roll 12-Hour Eye Shadow in Bronze
  • Tarte Natural Cheek Stain in Glam
  • Tarina Tarantone Sparklicity Pure
  • Tarina Tarantino Gen Gloss in Disco Nap
  • Bare Mineral Minerla Veil in Illuminating
  • Sephora Collection Electro Liner in Copper
  • Lorac 3D Gloss in 3D
  • Nars Orgasm Illuminator
  • Tarte Smooth Operator Illuminating Serum

Sephora Beauty in a Box – Too Faced The Nude Review $38 ($86 value)

  • Eyeshadow Duo in Teddy Bear & Heaven
  • Primed & Poreless face Primer
  • Lash Injection Mascara in Pitch Black
  • Shadow Insurance Primer
  • Pink Leopard Bronzer
  • Lip of Luxury in Centerfold

I want all four. What do you think?

Kat Von D Holiday 2010

If you have been reading my blog or watching my You Tube videos for a long time you may have heard me chatting about Kat Von D’s make-up range. I picked up 2 of the eyeshadow palettes whilst in Chicago last December. Well I loved the palettes. I even recorded a video tutorial or two using the palette as inspiration.

I was happy to hear that Kat has launched another Christmas/Holiday Collection for 2010. Here is a little look…

Kat Von D Tattoo Chronicles Palette Volume 1

Kat Von D Adora Collection 1

Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick Set

Personally I love the look of the lipstick set. The eyeshadows are not unlike shadows in my collection so it would be silly to buy these…in theory :) I like the quality of the eye palettes I have tried so far, although one is slightly better quality than the other. I had really low expectation since it’s a celebrity line but I was delighted to be so wrong.

Unfortunately the Kat Von D line is only available in Sephora. I might be heading across the Atlantic closer to Christmas, if I do I’ll be stopping to have a look.

Have you tried any of the Kat Von D line?

Sephora: Kat Von D Palette

Well ladies, I have to admit that until today I was a Sephora virgin. I had my very first experience today. Let me tell ya, I’m very glad we don’t have one Ireland because I would be poor!

I bought a few goodies, thanks to everyone who recommended products. And on with the yapping…

kat von dThe first thing I put in my basket was a Kat Von D eye-shadow palette. I haven’t heard a whisper about these.

I know there are probably oodles of reviews on YT but I didn’t have time to check :) I chose the Beethoven one, the other palettes were lovely but I already owned similar shades. And here it is…

I haven’t a clue what to expect from these shadows. Have you tried them?

I was feeling brave when I chose it since I often stick to neutrals. But this morning when I was doing my make-up I decided to go with the blue and navy shades from the Barbie Loves Stila Palette, very brave :) It looks quite soft and pretty though so I’m a happy girl.

I’ll post swatches of the shadows tomorrow. I will also post a photo of me wearing some of the shadows just for the heck of it! And of course I will share the rest of my make-up and beauty buys.

Is there anything else I need to get in Sephora?

I hope you’re all having a great weekend
