Some Goodies from The Body Shop…

The Body Shop has launched a few products for Easter and Spring. Now, you know I can’t resist a body butter but I have never tried the strawberry version. Perfect for this time of year. There is a lovely strawberry lipbalm too along with a new fragrance for Summer.

Chocomania Body Lotion 250ml – If you like the smell of Palmer Cocoa Butter then this one is right up your street. The lotion left my skin soft and smooth and it absorbed like a dream. As a happy side effect, wearing chocolate scented lotion put me off sugary snacks for the day. Maybe I’ll smear myself in this on Easter Sunday!

Strawberry Body Butter (€18.95) – Oh how I love a good body butter. I have yet to try one I like as much as The Body Shops.

Born Lippy Pomegranate Lip Balm – These are new to The Body Shop. They also sell Born Lippy Jars. I was expecting this to be sheer in colour and texture. Turns out it’s sheer in colour but not in texture. It’s rich and kinda buttery for a stick lip balm. It left my lips looking moisturised and juicy. I want to try more! Colour wise, does it remind you of Nars Orgasm?..

Lovely, sheer and pretty. I have been wearing it all week. The colour in the tube is deceptive so don’t be put off my the loudness.

White Musk Sun Glow (60ml €23.95) – Notes of lemon, peony and musk. This smells nothing like the original White Musk. It was created by Domitille Bertier, the woman behind Chloe’s Lavender Flower Water and Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb. This is perfect for Summer evenings. It’s quite sensual and seductive without being heavy or opulent. I like!

The Body Shop Christmas 2011…

I love this time of year, Christmas collection time. Here’s a little look at the products I got from The Body Shop’s collection. I did a little experimentation with some Christmas decs for a more interesting photo :) I was delighted with myself….

More pictures

Firstly, skincare. I have Cranberry Joy Body Lotion and Candied Ginger Body Wash…

These smell amazing. The ginger shower gel is my favourite of the two, it’s more Christmassy. The lotion is light and sweet.

The Sparkler was so popular last year that it has been repromoted…

I adore the bottle, it looks beautiful on my dresser. It wafts a light shimmer on the skin. Christmas party appropriate.

Time for this years palette – 4 Step Smokey Eyes. This one is in Golden Brown…

It comes with a visual tutorial which is handy.

And for the swatches….

More on the palette later :)

There are also a variety of High Shine Mini lip treatments…

Left to right: Beige Sparkle, Coral Sparkle, Purple Sparkle, Pink Sparkle

Each mini tube contains 6ml of product. They’re very glossy with lashings of sparkle. The smell quite nice, passion fruit I think.

I think I’ll record a Christmas party tutorial using the range!

Fragrance Review – The Body Shops New White Musk Libertine

On the 30th anniversary of White Musk, The Body Shop launched White Musk Libertine. It is a more floral, mature take on the original.

I would describe it as floral and feminine musk. It’s quite powdery and much more sophisticated than any Body Shop fragrance I’ve tested. For those of you with a sharper nose, and better descriptive skills, White Musk Libertine was developed by perfumer Vincent Schäller; notes include  Turkish delight, Chantilly cream, orchid and signature musk. It doesn’t remind of the original at all. Which is probably a good thing – I don’t need any reminders of my teenage years.

Although it’s soft enough to be worn during the day, I would feel more comfortable wearing this one at night – I always feel that way about powdery fragrances.

I have the eau de toilette version which is softer but as you would expect, it doesn’t last an eternity. That’s normal. All in all, it’s a lovely soft, chic scent. Much more grown up that the original White Musk!

White Musk Libertine costs from €14.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Summer 2011

I was really excited about trying The Body Shop’s Honey Bronze Collection. Mainly because I love bronzing products this time of year. I thought I’d give you a little look at some of the products for the Summer.

I love the packaging, it’s so pretty and very appropriate considering the season. They’re also very sturdy, which is important when you’re a dropper, like me :)

Honey Bronze Lip Nectar – 01 Honey Bunch: I’m a fan of The Body Shop Lip Glosses anyway but this one is a little different to the pink shades I tend to go for. It will work so well with a tan. The gloss is creamy and rich without being too sticky. It also has good pigmentation. (€14.50)

Honey Bronze Bronzing Gel for Face – 01 Honey Glow: This face gel will get a blog post of it’s own later this week, maybe a review combined with a Face of the Day post. Let me just say that this is great stuff – not oily, not orange, not smelly. It’s lightweight, would  suits most skin tones and gives an even and natural-looking honey-bronzed glow – it could also be used to enhance a natural tan, if you’re lucky enough to have one. (€18)

Honey Bronze Brilliance Powder – 02 Copper Shimmer: Brilliance Powder is one of those bronzers that stores loose powder in the bottom and has an integrated brush at the top. I’m never sure about these type of products as I like to control the amount of product I apply and often they pump out too much bronzer. This one doesn’t. The colour is soft and natural – I’ll follow up with some swatches. I like that I can throw this in my handbag. (€25.95)

Bronzing Powders – 02 Fair Matte, Medium Matte: I love matte bronzers but it can be hard for some girls to find one light enough for very fair skin. I’m delighted that The Body Shop offer one for fair skin. (€20.50)

Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil – 01 Honey Kissed: I am very excited about this one. It comes in a 100ml glass bottle. It smells distinctively floral. The scent is also quite strong. I have bought so many products like this over the years. Often they’re greasy or oily, this one is not!

Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil – 01 Honey Kissed

The downside is that it’s not great for travelling. I think I’ll be purchasing a small travel bottle in Boots and transferring some to bring away with me, problem solved.  It gives skin a natural-looking beautifully bronzed shimmering glow, with a dry finish. It’s also long-lasting and streak-free. The oil contains Community Fair Trade honey from Ethiopia and beeswax from Cameroon – this makes me like it even more. (€25.95)

Review: New Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel by The Body Shop

I’m going through a bit of a cleanser addiction lately. I love trying new cleansers. Maybe it’s because my skin rarely reacts to cleanser, moisturiser testing on the other hand can be treacherous :)

This week I have been using Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel from The Body Shop. It’s a little different to the cleansers I have tried before, it’s a gel to oil formulation.

Essentially this product melts off make-up and removes impurities. ‘Melts’ is the appropriate word since it looks like a gel but then transforms into a luscious oil once it hits the skin. It feels rich and luxurious. Products like this make me look forward to make-up removal, instead of it being a chore.

You get 100ml / 3.3 FL OZ in the tube which is a decent amount. I don’t seem to use a lot during cleansing and one application is enough to melt my make-up off. I tend to use my eye make-up remover first and then follow with this cleanser on dry skin, massaging it in and removing with a warm muslin cloth.

It’s not a million miles from Voya Totally Balmy and much cheaper at €13.60. It’s really good for skin showing the first signs of ageing or skin that is dry. That being said, it didn’t break me out or cause any spots on my oilier areas.

Nutriganics is also certified by Ecocert and is made with comunity trade ingredients where possible. I approve.

The Body Shop Palettes – Swatches

I have been promising swatches of The Body Shop’s spring palettes for ages and I completely forgot.. better late than never eh! :) It’s probably time for their summer launch at this stage but the Spring palettes are still on sale.

Palette 02 – A La Mode

Shades: Minimalist White, pret-a-pink, futuristic silver and black dress

Eye definer in o1 black and brush (which is good quality!)

Some swatches…. (taken in natural light)

And Palette 01 Boho Beauty

Shades: Nude, Vintage Apricot, Boho Brown, Haute Chocolate

Eye definer in 02 Rich Brown and eye brush

And some swatches… (both taken in natural light – one near the window, one away)

The second palette is great for blue eyes, the shades really make blue pop. Personally, I prefer the A La Mode palette, it’s more fun.The liners are great quality, rich in pigmentation and handy to throw in your make-up bag.

Rather surprisingly, the little brush that accompanies the palettes is excellent.

I recorded a 5 minute make-up tutorial using some of the eyeshadows from the palettes, I will upload it early next week.

GIVEAWAY! 10 Earth Lovers Shower Gels from The Body Shop

The Body Shop have launched Earth Lovers’ a range of 100% Biodegradable shower gels (€8.50). I have been using Lemon & Thyme for the past two weeks and it is divine! See the bottom of this post to be in with a chance to win one of ten gels.

Lemon & Thyme

A clean, fresh scent to brighten, cleanse and tone oily skin, zesty aromatic lemon is wonderfully invigorating and stimulating – ideal for an early morning wake-up call – I have this one myself and love it. I was surprised at how uplifting and zesty it smelled. It’s not a sugary lemon scent as I expected. Love.

Mint & Cucumber

Refreshing and reviving with Mint & Cucumber. An energising herb, mint has been used extensively in Eastern and Western medicine for its antiseptic properties and to rejuvenate the skin. There’s a reason why we say ‘cool as a cucumber’; its cooling and soothing powers are often used externally to treat minor skin complaints.

Watermelon & Eucalyptus

Give your skin some love with the unusual, yet perfect, pairing of Watermelon & Eucalyptus. One of nature’s best sources of anti-oxidants and rich in vitamins A, B and C, watermelon extract is known to nourish the skin.

Fig & Rosemary

For a fabulous fragrance boost, lather yourself in the gorgeous Fig & Rosemary blend. Treasured for their warm scent, figs have long been celebrated for their rich, sweetness. In Greece the fig tree is dedicated to Priapus, the god of fertility and gardens, and its Greek name – sykê – is the origin of the word sugar.

Pear & Lemongrass

Alternatively, envelop yourself in the fresh aromas of Pear & Lemongrass. Abundant in vitamin C, pear juice extract is known to soothe and rejuvenate the skin. Ideal in restoring radiance in dull, tired looking skin, pears are recommended for their exfoliating and toning properties.

Apricot & Basil

Wash away your worries with Apricot & Basil shower gel. Apricot fruit extracts are ideal for softening, nourishing, moisturising and regenerating the skin. Basil is considered a cooling herb, and is used as a tonic to relieve fatigue, to balance the mind and emotions, as well as improve and enhance the skin’s texture.

Fragrance Free

Earth Lovers™ also comes in a Fragrance-Free formula for those who prefer to wash without scent.
