The Cheapest Exfoliator ever!

12

My latest obsession with natural skincare is leading me down strange paths. Lately I have been enjoying the benefits of Bicarbonate of Soda.

I have been experimenting with foods and other natural things in my kitchen making my own skincare products. I came across the tub of Bicarbonate of Soda in the back of the press, I used it once to make scones. It occurred to me that my grandmother used this alot despite the fact she didn’t cook. She uses it for cleaning and for sorting out throat infections etc.

I decided to look into it further. Turns out that Bicarb is actually quite wonderful. It has so many uses that people have written books on the subject. The beauty implications attracted my attention.

For the past month I have been using this good ol’ stuff as an exfoliator. Apparently it’s great for unblocking drains, it seems to have a similar effect on congested skin. I used it to scrub my elbows and knees and  I even smeared some on a spot the other day and it dried it out quite nicely. Just make a paste with warm water.

The best part for me is that it’s gentle on my skin and it’s chemical free.

Grannies are never wrong!

I tried this last night and was amazed by the results. It left my skin unbelievably smooth and soft. I can’t believe the money I have spent in the past on high end exfoliators that have never done half the job bi-carb did.
So glad to have a multi-purpose product – baking and exfoliating!!!

But it is a chemical…I use it in the lab everyday. Its a Base. NaHCO3 is the chemical formula. On the chemical website it recommends Eye protection and gloves ;)

Yes, there are so many things this stuff is good for. I have tried it as a body scrub as well as a facial mask. It definitely calmed down my irritated facial skin. The good thing about it is that you can buy it at any supermarket and it is so inexpensive. I bought it about half a year ago and it came with a small booklet about all the different ways you can use it.

  7. Or, as Americans call it, “baking soda” :)

I LOVE using baking soda as an exfoliator! I mix it in with my cleanser and it really eliminates blackheads! I also used it on my scalp yesterday to get rid of build up. My hair is amazingly soft today!!!!
