We all remember the sold-out Alice in Wonderland `urban Decay eyeshadow palettes. I arrived at my Debenhams counter hoping to pick one up only to be told that they were already gone. Boo-hooing aside I was wondering when the brand would collaborate again.
Now I have been a fan of anything Oz related since I was three years old. I loved L. Frank Baum’s book – which I have kept in a prized place on my shelf at home, I know every line of the movie, I have seen Wicked too many times keep track of… well you get the idea. A little bit obsessed. Imagine my delight when Urban Decay release two palettes based on characters in Disney’s movie The Great and Powerful Oz – cue ridiculous make-up excitement dance.
Both palettes are beautiful. They are based on the good witch Glinda, played by Michelle Williams and ther bad witch, Theodora, played by Mila Cunis. The packaging is divine, the shadows are one-off, never-been-seen shades, the Lip Colors are created specifically to re-create the characters look and there is a little 24/7 pencil in each box. All of this equals love at first sight.
The Glinda Palette:
The Super Saturated Lip Gloss Lip Color in Glinda…
Glinda’s palette is ethereal, pretty and soft. Event the design on the tin is celestial. This was the palettes that really sung to me when I first saw them. It could be because out of the two I am closer in colouring but also because I fancy myself as a good witch rather than a bad one J
The Glinda Palette includes:
- Tornado – vibrant deep purple shimmer
- Aura – 2 shades in 1 – iridescent white with blue shift/iridescent white with red shift
- Magic – Pinkish purple with a golden shimmer
- Illusion – pale peach satin
- Oz – 2 shades in 1 – gold with gold glitter/silver with silver glitter
- South – Warm pale gray shimmer with silver micro glitter
- Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour in Glinda – a light sheer nude
- Travel size 24/7 Glide on Pencil in a deep eggplant hut.
Each palette comes with a tutorial showing you how to re-create the look step-by-step. Of course you can free-style it and create your own look, which is what I tend to do. The palettes incorporate Urban Decays Build Your Own format so if there is a shade that you don’t fancy you can just pop it out and add in another.
I should also point out that the eyeshadows are made using the new formula rather than the old. This means less chance of fall-out and a more pigmented look all round. I find a flat shader brush is perfect for these shadows with a clean fluffy brush to blend.
The price really impressed me. At €40/£35 these are cheaper than I would have imagined. Considering the number of shades, the Build Your Own tin, the 24/7 liner and the High Gloss Lip Color this is a steal. They are available from House of Fraser and Debenhams.
I highly recommend! Do bear in mind that these palettes are limited edition and with the movie, I’m not sure how long these beauties will stick around.
I will post the Theodora palettes swatches later this evening! Thoughts?
